Title: cracked screen having trouble getting replacement
Post by: stocky on April 11, 2008, 05:56:01 PM
got a stone chip the other day rang autoglass they ordered a new screen turned up to get it fitted but the screen has a bronze tint at the top whereas mine has a blue one they said they would order another one as it had been labeled wrong (was right screen size but marked as bl so it should have been blue)
that was four days ago then they rang up today saying that they cant find that screen and need the model code off vin plate so im hoping there open tomorrow so i can give them the deails, just out of interest does anyone have the part number for the screens with blue tint
i know its a long shot but thought it would be worth asking
cheers

I recently had my windscreen replaced by autoglass. When I turned up they wheeled out a blue screen, the entire thing was tinted blue. It would have looked rather silly with the rest of my windows being clear...

When they got the wrong screen I was just able to pick the screen I wanted from a list (e.g. blue, bronze tint etc) so i am surprised they are asking you for codes.. i even know that last week autoglass in Southampton had a blue rx7 screen in stock..

Sound like you just got a slow autoglass.

yeah it looks like they are a bit slow as they say only the bronze is listed on the system

Apart from the speed of the service, Would you recommend autoglass?  I received a quote for a new screen for around £350 all in, which I hope includes any seals etc..

Used them recently and they got the right screen but only offered 1 style of tint across the top of the screen.

They did have issues finding hte rubbers so they just used a universal rubber which looks good and I cant tel one bit.

I would defo recommend them and £350 if thats all in rip his hand off, I was advised the screen itself was £700 quid if I had to buy.

cheers

the rubbers are an issue as the one on my screen is a complete unit but diagrams show the seal as three seperate parts but the fitter said a universal seal would look better
this maybe a silly question but mines getting done through my insurance that wont effect my no claims will it????

Mine did not effect my no claims, just had to pay the £50 is it excess they call it.

But I would check as some insurance policies will only pay upto a certain ammount.

my rubbers were in three parts, your car must have the screen replaced in the past.

cheers

I can get one for a fraction of that cost

Give me a ring.....ask your local windscreen person for a quote to fit a screen

Apart from being slow i cannot fault the RAC installation, just be sure to specify what screen and that rubber is included.

But it were my money and not on insurance I would have gone with the heated screen Atomicreex was offering.

I think you will find that AutoGlass are slowly going to the wall.  They have a very lucrative insurance market deal, and unfortunately are charging the very high end of what neednt be!

As a company, we believe you should be fair in your pricing....no point in fleecing customers....very short term that!

If you bring your car to us, we will get it fitted too.

Same old story again.

Cracked screen and went to Autoglass in Bromley. Had to be specially ordered from Japan and they needed my vin and model number.

I said right from the start it\'s a blue tint and guess what, it tuned up bronze tint and they said they thought I must have replaced the glass previously - what to the rear and the side screens as well :Grrr

I\'ve printed the earlier part of this post and will fax over to them tomorrow.

Thanks for your help John

two questions though;

1/ do yours have the rear view mirror base bonded on already, since I would like mine to be higher?
2/ who would fit it - dont say me with my bad back!
