Title: Grrr!!! locks are jammed
Post by: bonobo on April 10, 2008, 01:55:17 PM
Went to lock the car last night outside tesco at about 1am and the key wouldn\'t turn easily and central locking didnt activate?
so i give it a little more force and it turns about 90 degrees, now is when i notice that the part of the key in the door didn\'t turn at all and i\'ve got a twisted key!
carefully took the key out and bent it back, luckily it still fits the ignition and the car started!
now i\'m frightened to try and lock the doors as the key will more than likely snap off and it\'s my only key!

I\'ll get another key cut asap!

anyone here had problems with the central locking system? how can i fix it?

i had stiff locks for a while. Wd40 is your friend. just spray it into the hole and it will get into the bit at are sticking.

(actually it might have been GT85, but wd should do the same thing)

i had this with my hilux the other day i used wd40 in the locks-done them all while i was there inc a little squirt in the ignition barrel use the key and just jiggle it around sote little bit clockwise little bit anticlockwise untill your doing the full turns, now the locks just glide. hope that sorts it for you rob

I have a problem with mine as well, but I found it works ok with 1 key, but if you get stuck try and use the passenger side to get in, reach across and then lock the passenger side as the passenger side doesn\'t get as much wear, this isn\'t gonna be the best solution, but it will do until you get it sorted lol

I might not be able to help you afterall as i tried the one lock and that is dodgy, if i can work out which side i have thats good and its the one you are after then you can have that for £15 inc postage, its in red.  Might be best to wait until you can get a full set, plenty being broken at the moment.

This happened on mine a couple of years ago.

Take all the panel off the inside of the door you will see that door handle mechanism is constructed of a type of coathanger like wire rods.

I found that when i pulled up the handle the lock was stiff, so the rods bent out of alignment almost bowing out under use of the handle. They are also held together by pathetic little white clips which become brittle with age.

I bent all rods back into shape soaked the lock in WD40. Check the weather seal on the window as this might be the culrpit letting water into the door and rusting the mechanism up.

This worked for me and still works no problems yet.
