Hi,
I am going to get an oddessy battery and i found a website but there are quite a few grades to choose from. Anyone with an oddessy battery could you let me know the number i.e. Oddessy PC (No.)
Cheers Garith.
PC 680 with metal jacket.
anyone know the best place to get these?
They only last about 2yrs before they loose their charge. I\'ve upgraded to a PC1500 in the boot. Much bigger but don\'t have any flat battery issues.
Usually I reconmend knight batteries.co.uk seem to do good deals.
Shaun
Im not sure the 1500 will fit in a bin compartment which is what Gase is trying to achieve.

[stupid question alert]
The PC680MJ has funky battery terminals.. how do you connect them to the RX7\'s pos/neg clamps?

You can get car type poles as an add on that screw in.
We are now stockists of the Odyssey batteries.
The popular battery is to use the RedTops....these however used to be an Odyssey battery with a name change, but now they have chosen to source from a Chinese company, and the technology they are using is slightly inferior making them heavier and they don\'t last as long. That unit I can get shipped to your door for £103 inc VAT, the usual 5% discount applies to club members
There is also a bracket that can be purchased with this. I will get a price to you for this
I had a PC680 and it began to smoke! After removing it the top has bulged slightly at the top and was quite warm, I take it the plates on the inside were damaged and its now useless. I want to buy another but I\'m worried the same could happen, is this just a rare case of the battery having a fault as the Alternator is all A1 condition.
That is rare, how old is the battery? Have you tried to charge it? Or jump it??

I had exacltly the same problem, oddessy wouldn\'t replace it either so I had to buy another. one
They do say that it isn\'t covered under a direct short and the battery can get damaged by shorting.

I have a PC680 from Knight Batteries around 3 years old now and it\'s still going strong.
Thats good to hear its just a one off thing, I was worried it could be down to running them on FD\'s. I take it the alarm will drain it after around 4 days, and you need to drive the car a fair few miles to recharge it otherwise it won\'t rechage in time.
I suppose if you park the car in a garage you can just disconnect the battery so there is no drain.
Looks like I\'ll have to get another at 100 pounds! Anyone know if I can put my PC680 metal jacket on just a PC680 without the jacket, as it would save me a few pounds.

My Clifford will easily drain it in 4 days and I do exactly that and disconnect the thing as the car is garaged. I figure if someone is determined enough to break into my garage and figure out where the battery is and then overcome the immobiliser and alarm then they deserve to steal it!
The best thing to buy is a trickle charger. We have a unit that is ideal for the 680 and is £39+VAT
Its best to keep these units topped up as otherwise they can bend the plates.
But having said that, my battery was left for 6 months, and fired the FD up straight away!
That sounds very "Gene Hunt" Fire up the quattro!! Does it work as well with FD?
Anyway...can get either of the items or both to you next day
The battery is about a year old and was trickle charged, I think the previous owner may have damaged it before I purchased it. That\'ll teach me to save a few quid as I have to buy another now!
I\'ll see if I have some cash spare and order the Optima - was the £103 for the MJ version?
Yes
That is for the MJ
Do you want a bracket? or do you have one of these?
Cheers
Jon
Literally as I was reading this, the courier just delivered a PC680MJ that I ordered along with the screw-in terminals. I am hoping it will fix the problems I have had on my Varta A14.
Out of interest, what make is the trickle charger you supply Jon ? Can I order it from your website, or shall I call ?
jon could you do the non metal battery cheaper, or is it a \'no no\' from a safety point of view?
The list prices are:
680 £103.50
680MJ £109.50
The 680MJ as I stuck it up at £103 I will honour And the 680 will be £103.50 unless you are a club member where you can get an extra 5% off.
The website is being pulled today, new one is been worked on at the moment, so hopefully at the end of the month to middle of next month we should have a spanking new one!!! With a good shop :D
So best option is get us either via email or phone

Old thread I know but I had two PC1200s which did the same thing. They started to smoke and were really hot. I think it\'s down to charging them incorrectly. The first time was coming back from WGT who left it on charge for me and it started smoking on the motorway. I bought a second one and bought a trickle charger for it. After leaving it on tricklecharge and it showing green, I used it and then it started smoking too. I\'m just about to buy another one and I\'m a bit hesitant as I don\'t want the same thing to happen again - not when you\'re spending £175 on a battery each time.
