Hey guys, I have found a \'91 FC but I was wondering if its precat or not, I know the \'89 FCs are precat, but Im not sure when cats were fitted as standard, would a \'91 FC have a cat or not?
All the TII\'s have CAT\'s and reburners, the EGI\'s have a port reburner and a reburner.
Oh, cause I know on my current \'89 Mazda GT engine (323f) its got no cat lol how can I tell if it has one? does anyone know the year that cats became a legal addition?
Legally you must have a CAT if your car was registered in late \'92 - so a \'K\' plate or later.
Ah ok, so perhaps it seems that the FDs had a cat and the FCs didn\'t lol the car I looking at is a J plate :) I have just checked online and found that it can pass an MOT as long as the emmisions are within limits, with or without cat, but I guess with older cars there are less strict limits
The FC Turbo 2\'s do have a CAT as standard, it\'s in the down pipe :)
How much does it cost to accidently change the downpipe to a turbo friendly downpipe? lol :D
infact UK TII have 2 - one in the down pipe and one under the seats
JDM just have the one under the seats
easy to check really :D
91 fc if it\'s Jap would have 1 car (center) and if a uk car would have 2 (downpipe & center) :)
Is it possable to put a Jspec downpipe on a UK car and remain on stock ecu?
Rotechniks do a full catless downpipe, and it will work with the stock ECU no problem. It\'s quite a nice piece of stainless as well - 3" diameter so good wide pipe after the turbo. With a decent exhaust system and intake, you will get much better mid range and the turbo will spool up lower down in the rev range. It\'s a good modification to do, and with the air pump still in place your car will pass the less stringent emissions test with no problems (in that form my car gave 0.44% CO against 3.5% allowed, and 224 PPM HC against 1200 PPM allowed).
I\'m sure the vendors that advertise at the top of the home page will also be able to supply the same or similar downpipe.
If you get one fitted, get a couple of extra bungs welded in for other sensors - makes things easier when you want to add them later (like EGR or wideband)
its just a pain to fit !! - i ended up snapping the studds and had to remove the entire exhaust - all fun and games :D
Cool, well I was thinking if its safe to do so then I would rather loose the pre-cat and with the engine not even built yet, I got some nice access! :yes
So this is deffinately ok to put J-spec dp on UK TII and stock ECU and 95fuel? (cant help be paranoid :Laugh )
I\'d fit an fcd to be safe :)
Good call!
Thanks gents :cheers
How much is a FCD? Ive seen a few on deamon tweeks and they are quiet pricy lol although Im probably gonna get a new ECU b4 i do anything with the internals etc
a FCD - should be no more than about £30 really
have a look on ebay.com - thats the cheapest place usually ( or ausrotary )
so something as basic as this:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ELECTRONIC-FUEL-CUT-DEFENDER-FOR-ANY-TURBO-CHARGED-CAR_W0QQitemZ150232394859QQihZ005QQcategoryZ72205QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1742.m153.l1262
I know it would mean it wouldn\'t cut fuel to the rear rotor, but would this be for modded cars?
Most chipped ECU\'s don\'t require the FCD, which effectively just lies about the boost pressure to the stock ECU. The chipped ECU\'s don\'t cut fuel to the rear rotor, and in fact are likely to have corrected maps for higher boost values.
The danger of the FCD is that it tells the ECU that boost is 8psi when it could be much higher, so the appropriate amount of fuel is not being delivered by the injectors (FC\'s tend to run very rich anyway, so there is some headroom).
