Title: Identifying Knightsports twins.
Post by: Matt_K on March 24, 2008, 06:07:46 PM
How many different versions of knightsports twins are there? Can they be identifyed by look or something?

I\'ve been stripping my engine down today in preperation for taking it out and I saw this. Any clue to what they are? There is some faint engraving on there, but I can\'t for the life of me remember what it says.

Thanks in advance - Matt

They only do 1 off the shelf conversion to stock twins and the specs they use are pretty dam good

They are called the RF420 high flow turbines. They have reinforced internals aswell as a larger journal bearing compressor wheels that are 20% larger than the stock ones.

Hope that helps.

Thanks :) great help - I was told it had high flow turbo\'s on when I imported it, but it still has a stock fuelling system, so I was unsure as to the truth of that.

Pip could only map it to .8 bar to keep eveything safe. Time for a new fuel system I think...

Yeah sort the fueling out and have some fun with them they are great units.

We have had great results with the twin SARD fuel rail kits not the cheapest mind you but very good. We did a kit for a guy in last week. He had a TO4E on his so we sorted him with the Twin fuel rail kit, 800cc primarys, 1000cc secondarys and Bosch 044 pump. He was very happy with it.

What kind of power can you expect from the KS twins - say compared to stock twins, full exhaust, IC & fuel mods which is usually around 320fly?

John Hudson made 369.9 (436 @ fly) @ 0.9 bar boost at the wheels on stock ports which are restrictive as you know over say street port.

wow! thats great figures, so porting you`d see about 400bhp at the wheels :) nice..

I translated the text on the badge for you bud.. it says.. " Give the turbos to Craig!"

Ha ha ha, indeed my man! :Giggle

Must say im interested in these KS twins.  Stronger and more air, sounds ideal! :cool

edit - 320 rear wheel WTF!  I managed 275RW (I think) with the mods!  Ok i\'ll see what the new engine does :)

Just picked my new ks twins up about an hour ago :D
Just need to port the wastgate then fit them :S

Good luck with fitting them.. I can\'t even imagine trying to remove the stock twins with the engine in the car, lol

After i\'ve rebuilt my engine and made my v-mount, i\'m gonna go chasing some bhp with pip and some new fuel goodies... all this talk of 400+ at the fly on stock ports has made me hungry :D

To give you guys an idea of how much the Knighsports twins are:

This inculdes a donated turbo pack in Japan (is much easier and cheaper than sending yours out there and back) refurb and the RF420 conversion it comes in at £2,270 inc vat and delivery.

With fueling, intake, exhaust, ic and apexi fc you should make 320 rw at 1.0 bar boost, on stock ports.  Main prob is the stock twins don\'t like running that boost really and increased wear occurs (in my case oil seal went after 2 weeks so went single..)

Can happily make 300 RW daily

Not really dude, I\'d rather have a working FD and not skinning knuckles getting the engine out! lol

Now when it\'s all back in and I\'ve bought some new bits... well.. maybe then ;)

Nope, no plans to do that. I enjoy sequential too much.

I know it would tidy the rats nest up no end, but I\'ve had a look at a few threads on doing it, and I don\'t fancy it. Sounds silly when i\'m a first time DIY rebuilder and I\'ve got no issues about ripping open the engine.

Hopefully then I have a lot to look forward to with a new engine :)  I had all the same mods but at peak of 0.85 bar.  Thought my reading was normal! dammit lol :Grrr I too shat the oil seals but lasted 2 years on that boost - still not bad for a turbo pack 140k miles old! :Giggle

Cant wait to do the new motor :)

Yeah without adoubt if you got them at that price!

When you buy them direct from Knightsports they/you have to supply a set of 2nd hand turbos to do the conversion with that is around £250-£300 before you have even thought about the RF420 conversion.

Still on the stock ports in afraid!

I might drop the upper and lower inlet manifolds off and port match them on the new motor.  Also have efini y pipe & crossover to go on too (well, its on its way) and knife edge the throttle body housing.  Im not after major bhp but just nice to see what difference I can get :yes
