Right I have a situation. I want to go home, but I\'m stuck at my parents I can\'t cos my coolant buzzer is going off.
I\'ve checked the coolant level and its fine, looking at the commander temps are where they should be but the buzzer keeps going!!!
I have just changed the spark plugs and changed the oil, but I don\'t think there is any reason why that should make the buzzer go off?
It could be an airlock I guess just need to let it cool down and then try and burp the system.
Could it be I\'ve overfilled the system or something equally lame?
The buzzer sensor is in the top of the filler pipe. Check that the single cable is still there. If there is water in the filler neck it shouldn\'t go off. I think its the same as the 1st gen in that it just grounds the circuit to shut the buzzer off.
Fire the car up without the filler cap on and see if the level is dropping, could be an air lock but that will only happen if you have recently swapped the coolant over.

check the cable from the sensor mine had split under the plenum and was the same going off even though filler was full..i think the wiring becomes brittle and can come away
Will I be able to see if the sensor isn\'t working on PFC?
I did remove the connector at the back of the elbow to fit an oil filter, is this anything to do with the sensor?
no the sensor is in the filler abouve the rad hose the wire goes to a white connector aboyt 4 inches away and then goes into the loom under the plenum..check wire is intact all way allong to where it goes into the loom..from memory it is a black wire with red dashes on it
well I\'ve had a quick look and it seems to be okay.
I\'ve checked the coolant system and it doesn\'t seem to have any airlocks in it.
I\'ve got no idea what it is. Where does the apexi take its reading from? It says the temps are okay.
Am I okay to drive it? If the apexi is saying the temp is okay can I trust it?
the buzzer will drive u crazy..from what i remember if u ground the wire ie run a wire from the connector to the body the buzzer should stop
hmmm, just tried that. No joy :(
Am at a complete loss with this.
well if there is water in the filler and the buzzer is going off then u must have a break in the wire run the wire to a good earth ie the battery and then connect other end to the spaed connector thet runs toward the plenum..this should stop the buzzer if not trace that wire back to make sure it isnt broken right up to where in enters the loom
well I guess if the buzzer was still making a noise while earthed then there must be a break further along the line somewhere. Guess I\'ll be giving Carl a call tomorrow.
Guess I \'ll just have to drive it with the buzzer, I wouldn\'t worry about it turning me mad. If I was sane I wouldn\'t own a rex ;)
the wire that runs from the sensor in the filler neck is black and red this then dissappears into the loom behind the alternator and reappears behind the ps pump. This wire need to be connected to the brown and white wire which comes out of the starter motor/altnator wiring, also check your temp gauge is working on your dash as this also may cause problems if its come dissconnected from the small sensor to the left of the oil filter..
cheers

yep gonne get carl to check mine when i eventually get my miles done for the remap..had it back over a year and only got 800 miles on the clock
my buzzer has played up and when i investigated the wire it just came away it had some elec tape round it so guess it had been repaired
ooooooooooh tell me more about the sensor next to the oil filter.
I disconected the grey connector bit by the elbow when changing the oil filter yesterday, could I have knocked something?
its a very small single wire sensor in the rear end plate.
The wire comes out of the loom from behind the inlet manifold.
It might help if you remove the elbow as its tight in there.
The water temp sensor that the PFC and dash gauge uses is just under the oil filter. Bit of a pain to get to. This must be plugged in for the buzzer to stop. Also, as mentioned abive, there\'s a cable behind the ps pump that must be plugged in for the buzzer to stop.
Well having had a little play, the buzzer seems to go off even if I just have the electrics turned on, i.e. the engine is not running.
Which I\'ve never had before, therefore I guess it MUST be the sensor. I suppose if I wass changing spark plugs and this sensor is under the oil filter then I could have knocked it ?!
have u tried grounding the water level sensor wire? DOes that make it go away

Hi, just to let you know the PFC takes the water temp reading from the back of the thermostat house its the green plug.;)
cheers
Right got the car up on axle stands, had a look underneath can\'t see anything there. Had a look at the plugs by the power Steering, that is connected.
Tried Grounding it last night and the buzzer wouldn\'t stop.
So I guess it must be a broken wire in the part from the connector on the filler neck to the bit around the alternator. Hmmm.

Yeah, that makes sense! My bad. However, the other info I posted is correct. The buzzer will still sound if the water temp sensor plug is not conntected to the temp sensor under the oil filter, and there\'s a cable behind the PS pump that needs to be conntected properly for the buzzer to sound.
The buzzer can sound with the electrics on but no engine running. There have been many threads on this issue actually - Approximately 2 years ago there\'s even a thread started by me for the same reason.

Okay, after taking off the front strut brace, intercooler piping and the elbow I managed to find the connector you were talking about...and sure enough it wasn\'t connected. It looks as though someone has repaired it before and the wire had come off the spade connector.
So fingers crossed its sorted.
Thanks to everyone for their help!!! You may well have just saved my rex from several sharp kicks to the tyres!!! :rollin
so are we all sorted?
Oh Yes.
For the moment anyway ;)
