Title: FD3S boot area drainage
Post by: noyzboy on March 24, 2008, 10:26:17 AM
I opened the tailgate on my FD after heavy rain and was dismayed to see the rainwater on the tailgate running into the boot area as I opened it...and then disappearing down the cavities where the tool kit and jack live on the left and right.
Is this an issue ?? Will water drain out somewhere or does this lead to rust ???

you will find the water wil just collect in the wheel well...i drill a hole in the spare wheel well of any cars to help with this...

when i got my car i found a wet rusty tool kit, not sure how that much water got in there. I dried it out and it has been dry since apart from when i opened the tailgate after washing the other day but i obviously had a chamois to hand. My friends gets the same problem on his 350z it happens to alot of cars i think.

Martin you have to live with it I\'m afraid.

Just open the hatch slightly, wait for most of the water to run off properly. then when you open it fully , you are minimizing how much goes inside.

Or you could combine this method with the chamois trick.

I would not drill a hole in the wheel well for fear of the fumes getting into the car.

Thanks for the advice.

The water does not seem to end up in the spare wheel well. Hence the mystery...where does it go !!

FDMC Aldershot Autosolo was on a good site, but very slippery. It had not been used for this event before, but the location is very convenient.
Simon Trickett has sold his Clan and was nearly as fast as the Lotus Seven boys in a very stock looking first gen MR2.

The next mod I need is obviously not a single turbo, but a talent injection. LOL
