Title: Help with wheel hop
Post by: CharlieP on March 22, 2008, 10:05:22 AM
So there I was sitting at the lights, with a 911 carbio (fairly new one) next to me......green lights, dumped the clutch, and although I stayed with him till I eased off, all I seemed to get was wheel spin and loads of wheel hop :(
Now the road surface wasnt very good, but would that be the only reason?

Want 17s really and wider rears...but had no interest in mine yet

what tyre pressures are you running. i know that to get better times at the pod (as in good off the line times) letting some air out the tyres can help.
wider wheels wil def give more traction etc. also what tyres have you got? hard compound or soft as that will make a difference.

The more grip you have, the worse wheel hop will be. Im constantly battling with it in my car, i hate it.

ditto higher wheel pressure will reduce the hop but induce wheel spin.

I had i bad but now with a new diff i dont really get it. Got a high powered clutch too meaning launches are much quicker and instant with no slip on the clutch.

I intended on replacing ALL the bushes at huge cost until my diff let go and thank god it did before i spent more than the cost of the diff doing them. Now i get no hop when reversing either.

Jamie-Supra- hows it going? Its Charlie, who owned your car!

EnvyD- I\'ve got 18-8j all round

M4drx- I\'ve got a horrible exeedy clutch too lol look such a school boy when you nearly stall it, or

Tyre pressures- will check them, but Im guessing theyre the standard 29-30 psi as the guy who sold it to me checked them before i bought it

Its strange cos I dont think I\'ve experienced wheel hop on either of my other rexs....well certainly not that bad any way

I\'ve just taken off my dragon diff brace off the car due to the autoexec braces and the difference in wheel hop is huge. Its jumping for fun if I\'m slightly light footed. Sold the brace now to a nice chap off fduk and am buying a KGparts brace off freddy that should fit with my new braces.

I\'ve also some poly bushes waiting to be fitted which may help too.

Thanks EnvyD, but not quite what I\'m after, bit fussy I guess.
Try this link- http://s246.photobucket.com/albums/gg107/chazzepee/?action=view¤t=SP_A0202.jpg (http://s246.photobucket.com/albums/gg107/chazzepee/?action=view¤t=SP_A0202.jpg)

The wheels look so good at the moment, Nick made a good choice, its jus that I thought the car would ride and handle better on 17s, and I\'d like wider rears
