Just got my Rex going after years of it sitting around. Took it to ROTechnics for all the belts, hoses, once over etc. In general they said it is good to go.
Have Bedford booked for the 5th of April and was thinking about upgrading the Brake pads. Any suggestions for something with will work as an everyday driver, but won\'t fade on the track? never heard good things about green stuff, red stuff etc... don\'t mind spending a few quid.
Should I consider changing the brake fluid also?
Thanks,

I hope you have a standard OE exhaust system, otherwise you\'ll be too loud for Bedford.
Best get your noise levels checked before parting with any money.

yep.. you just answered a question. Unfortunately just got my plates today so couldn\'t get it checked. Last day to get a credit was yesterday.
So i\'m pot committed £199. My NSX will be fine.. but some last minute work needed on the RX7 with 2 weeks to go.
I\'ve got the standard exhaust, but some ridiculous back-box. Was going to get noise levels checked.. but will probably just by-pass that as per your comments to get a standard backbox back on.
Do you think Hayward Rotary would be able to sort me out? How easy is it to get a standard exhaust set-up... on the cheap? :)
This could do it, eh?

I want to put it in a shop next week anyway to get the brake upgrade and see if there\'s a chance for some simple tuning to increase performance a little.

Change your brake fluid to some Castrol SRF. Its incredible, all the top race teams use it, yes its a bit dear at nearly 40quid a litre (you\'ll prob need 2 litres for a full change and flush through), but you will not have any probs with that stuff in the system.
Pads....always always throws up loads of recomendations.
For a good everyday pad that can be used on track without too much issue\'s is Ferodo DS2500 compound... its been around for quite a while now, but is prob Ferodo\'s bests selling compound.
Its good for fast street cars, its quite soft material and can have a tendancy to leave deposits on discs if worked really really hard (i\'m talking lap after lap after lap on a stop start type circuit).
The DS2500 is prob the best all round performer without braking the bank for some really sh1t hot track dedicated compounds.
Some braided brake hoses always helps with initial bite.
Some cooling tubes to the brakes never goes amiss...if you can rig up some type of flexi pipe from the front bumper through to the wheel arch directed at the top of the calipers, this will also aid you.
All the above could easily be achieved for around 300 quid...and that would be a great upgrade over the oem set-up, and also, the most important thing, it wont ruin your day...theres nothing worse then attending a trackday and experiencing brake fade after a few laps....ive been there and done that!
an alternative to the castrol brake fluid is motul rbf600 a very very good fluid.
But not ultimately as good as the SRF...put the SRF in once, and you can leave it in there for a whole trackday season without having to bleed / change it.

Dan,
I assume this was all a cheap plug as I see you\'re a sales engineer for a brake company.. ;) just kidding.
seriously: really appreciate what appears sound advice based on experience. My Brother is flying out from the US. This is one stop on a whirlwind tour of thrills, so I\'ve got to do my best to ensure it\'s unflawed on the day.
Can you source all this stuff from the company you work for? If so, can we get it all going on Tuesday? or even today.

Looking good to have all this sorted within a week!
Hawk pads; no contest. You get what you pay for.
Project Mu\'s work very well on both track and road. Variuos pads options availible. Also you should swap out the stock brake lines and clutch hose for braided or teflon ones.
cheers

How quick could you get Project Mu\'s in for a 03 NSX?
Where in Surrey are you?
Ususally as i wouldn\'t keep those in stock they take about 10 days. I would need to check the application on Monday. I assume it just has stock calipers no brembos ect

Yep, Need to get something next week as I\'ve got the car booked in for a week from Monday.
My only choice right now seems Dixcel Brake - which I\'ve never heard anything about. guys on the NSX site swear by the Mu\'s
http://nsxcb.co.uk/testvb/showthread.php?t=4536
Do you think the Dixcels will be good? ... ah just looked at the link closer "AP Dixcel". so AP Racing brakes i assume? probably work great on AP discs
*everything stock on my car.
I\'m afraid i wouldn\'t be able to comment on the Dixcels as i have had no expericance with them. The Mu\'s are very good without doubt i will see how quick i can get a set for you.
Discs and pads?

Hi,
Very pleased to hear that you won\'t use EBC especially as we won\'t sell the nasty stuff for these cars due to what we have witnessed!
We have been supplying our customers cars with trackday upgrades for the last six years and using this experiance are able to offer you a good Disc, pad, and brake-line package to upgrade the stock brake system into a good track setup that will still work fine on the road.
Alternatively we can offer a complete big brake kit for all four wheels but this will cost a lot more money.
If you would like to follow the link below you will find the Disc\'s, pads and lines on our on-line shop.

Hope this helps
Sorry forgot to tell you we sell Racing Brake Discs to fit the NSX in either 1 piece or 2 piece grooved,
Hope this helps

Haha, i actually quoted you a competitors pad over the company i used to work for! (i should update my details!):Laugh
I would have quoted my old companies all purpose compound, but they are not available for RX7 applications
Seriously, for everyday AND track use, the Ferodo DS2500 are a tried and tested "old faithfull" type compound, you\'ll be ok with those.
Deffo change the fluid for Castrol SRF, and if your budget can cope with the hose\'s and cooling, then this will put you in good stead for the day.
Hi Rob,
I havn\'t been on here so much lately due to work so never realised you\'d joined up:bandit The Rex is looking great.
Everybody has there own opinions on what is best usually due to what they have or sell so I\'ll add my own! I always use Hawk pads on the Rex which I get from Gary at Rotaryart on here. I did have the hawk hp plus(i think) which are a road/track one and were very good. Last time I needed replacements Gary had run out of the hps so I went for the ht10 race ones. They are expensive but without doubt the best pads I\'ve ever used on any car. They are much the same as the hp plus when cold but once warmed up they are incredible. The RS-R has bigger brakes and I\'m not too heavy on brake use anyhow, but I\'ve never experienced brake fade on the Rex with this set up even after ragging the car silly all day at Silverstone for instance.
Hawk HT10 is a very good track compound.

Hey Dave,
Thanks for the heads up. Think it\'s going to come down to what I can source quickly.. don\'t want to go hog-wild just yet so just pads and lines for now.
Was looking at the 300zx in the garage today. pretty dusty. should sell, but doubt anyone will pay over 7.5K; so will just keep.
She\'s a proper beast, eh. Hope to get it on to a track this summer. see how it compares.

I should have gone into more detail above. Yes, i ran HT10 fronts and HP Plus rear. Now i have APs on the front i still run the HP Plus on the standard rear brakes. Very good.
Seriously considering some of this SRF if it\'s so good (currently have RBF600 but it needs changing after the last brake-melting trackday!), if it doesn\'t fade it\'s worth the cash (also have new HT10 pads and Racing Brake discs from Clive to go on).
It talks about flushing - I know a litre is enough for a change of fluid, but presumably you need to run some extra through first when changing to SRF - without wanting to spunk another £40+ just for that exercise, is it really necessary and if so, could the flush be done with something cheaper before filling up with SRF?
