Title: Weekend car considerations
Post by: T11MNM on March 17, 2008, 03:24:32 PM
Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has any tips on using the RX as a weekend car rather than a daily drive.

Will the car be ok sat in the garage for 5 days with little or no use or should i be taking it out a couple of times a week to blow the cob-webs away?

Any help appreciated :)

Also, the car is fitted with a Greddy Profec B2 boost controller. Having never used a boost controller if anyone has a few minutes to give me a tutorial and is local to Doncaster that would be great!

I don\'t want to fiddle with any of it\'s settings but i would like to know what each setting does if anything goes wrong with it.

Cheers

I use mine as a weekend car and I think the only thing you have to get is a trickle charger to keep you battery topped up.  Sometimes I don\'t use mine for weeks and I haven\'t had any issues.

Yes mines a fairweather car too! unless i get caught out, often not used for 2-3weeks but as said battery will loose charge which my has three times so have ordered a quality trickle charger, no other problems either.

I\'ve never had any problems starting after leaving it 2 to 3 weeks.  I try and take it out at least once a week, weather permitting :3gears-rh

Cool, thanks for dispelling any of my worries :)

Just got to get my head around this blasted boost controller, it can\'t be that difficult to understand.

You probably don\'t want to be touching the boost controler as it\'s probably been set to the correct boost for the map. You could make it over boost or boost spike if you change the settings.

As i\'ve explained, i don\'t want to change settings, i just want an understanding of how each setting affects things.

If worse comes to worse i\'ll speak with Pip about it, but the car isn\'t due to see him until the 31st of May!

Basicaly there to adjustments that actualy have an effect. One or setting boost i think on the greddy it is in % rather than an actual figure. The second is gain again in % this is how sharp the wastegate opens the more gain the quicker you get to peak boost but too much gain will give you a boost spike. On that boost controller you can also set a warning if you start to over boost a all. It will also recall peak boost.

mine sits in the garage all week and only comes out to play at weekends, no problems so far, not even run in yet :(
if you come past the bp at the end of the village with the field on your right , turn left just before the houses down the dirt track and the 3rd garage is mine , id love to see what youve ended up buying after taking your time over it :Thumbs-up

Do you mean with the field on your left heading towards the A1?

I\'d call in but wouldn\'t want to come un-announced, give me a call if you like 07793078516 i\'m free most of the easter weekend. I just spent the day securing my battery in the boot!
