Title: Urgent assistance required
Post by: lee mills on March 15, 2008, 11:23:53 PM
Hi I need some help. Went driving back from portsmouth today (135 miles) car was running fine then for no reason 5 miles from home she just died im thinking there might be a problem with the immobiliser. she turns other but no spark
Any help appreciated.
Starting to come to the end of my tether with her now, if i hadnt invested so much money into her i think i would have taken a hammer to her.
Thanks
Lee

first thing i would do mate would be to take the immobiliser out of the loop and then re try either that or pay a specialist to check if the immobiliser is working properly. after that you are into componant and wiring loom/ecu connection checking.

quick question what ecu are you using?? if you have the apexi with the commander there are lots of probs that can be identified with that. it recently helped me diagnose a voltage iregularity in my water temp sensor causing my rex to run like a bag of nails saving me loads of hassle and time.

ive never heard of a immobiliser operating or activating while car is running
only one is blackjax by clifford..i think problem maybe elsewhere..check connection to ecu/battery and any other place car recieves power.do the dash light come on when u turn key..i would also check the idle control valve and the throttle position sensor

EGI fuse?

That feeds spark and fuel injectors - so car will still turn over if it\'s blown.

the clicking noise is because the battery is dead
as laaeq has said make sure battery connections are sound and battery is fully charged

check your coil pack dude...does it just turn over as though its flooded?

sorry my last post was a bit vague. To check my coils (ill assume for now its your leading coil which needs checking as thats the one which fires the car), pull out the ignition lead from one of the leading plugs. Put a really long (about 40cm is the one i use) screwdriver inside the lead and then rest it against the suspension turret. Then turn the car over on the starter motor and look for the spark jumping from the screwdriver to the Inner wing. If it does, then that coil is ok. If it dont, you more than likely got a knackered coil. The white smoke is probably cos its flooded

did your apexi start to work when you had it running??? if you get it running again check the voltage at the battery to see if you are getting a charge from the alternator if its not charging at all it would explain when the engine cut out and the battery going flat. also would explain rough running etc if the new battery had low charge it will give you weak spark and low fuel pump pressure.

Just tried this no spark so i assume the coil is knackered so the next question is where is this located on the car and where do i get a new one from

YOu need to remove the plenum to get to the coil pack. Once the plenum is off, its easy to see how to replace it. Rx motors is a good bet for stuff like that. Alternatively, I got a decent coil pack in my shed.
While u are there, check your trailing coils as well. If you can, check for 12v going into the coils.

The only bit that worries/confuses me is when the car will start the apexi commander shows up with monitor settings eg boost air temp etc. when it wont the commander just says apexi is this right if the coil is fubbered

I am seriosly contemplating selling her when shes fixed as im getting fed up and paranoid with the car. Ive nicknamed her christine now:rollin

basically, as long as youve tested it right, then youre not getting any spark to start the car. Now im just trying to see if youre getting reference from the crank angle sensors.
Does your rev needle sort of flicker as youre turning her over? (its only a minute flicker...but a flicker nonetheless)..
