As a few of you know my car has not been happy recently, poor starting and crap idling, no loss in performance though
Anyways I went off to Reading to see Rotechniks yesterday and they confirmed what I thought
Front Rotor Compression over 6.3
Rear Rotor Compression way down from about 5 to 2.8
So it seems I will be joining the rebuild club very shortly, I\'d like to pay tribute to my car currently on just over 90k, I think its lasted well with careful maintance
Rotechniks are asking about £3400 as long as there are no additional bits that are needed and the housing are ok.
Or I have access to another engine that has done 22k, which I could drop in.
I may be selling the car, and I would expect that I will be able to get more money for it if it has a full from scratch rebuild from a reputable place
How much do we think I would be looking at for my car ?
95, Wings West Front, Skirts, Spoiler, Spats, 18" Enkei Allloys, Ohlins Adjustables, Lowered, Apexi FC, HKS Downpipe, Midpipe, Apexi Backbox, HKS Hard Piping, Apexi Induction, In Dash TV, DVD etc
Any advice on costs, where to go, past experiences etc would be gratefully received (obviously I will be trawling past posts as well)
Cheers
Dave
Unless you\'re looking to get a seriously different looking motor (i.e. fancy a change) then I\'d have thought you\'re better of getting a rebuild done.
You\'d get peace of mind, possibly have it ported (you already have the ECU so remapping isn\'t a problem). The base price for the roteknics rebuild seems pretty expensive and there\'s no guarantee what else needs doing.
For comparison the quote from Pip (including porting) was less than that but the end bill was a good chink more as there was so much that needed doing (full hose replacement, engine mount, diff, etc). On the plus side I now have a good platform for either upping power a bit (ecu, \'zaust, cooling, induction) or for keeping stock and having reliability.
Iain
hmm I will ring round, I never like to go with the cheapest quote, but as I might be selling it I don\'t want to have it ported and stuff like that, I was quite happy with the performance as it was tbh :)
Dave
so what are your mods and power then:)
Mods are in my original post
Obviously more power would be nice don\'t get me wrong, but having spanked silly amounts on the car already I think I should slow down a wee bit :) Once I have done intercooler and larger injectors, fuel pump etc there nothing more I could do really without going single if I ported it
Dave
From reading some other posts I thought rebuilds were about £1800 - 2000, are you having anything special done?
If thats your car in your avatar it looks good:)
Thats my car, but I will be happier with it when its fixed
Having phoned around a rebuild is a minimum of £2500
Obviously if you want to take the risk and use old housings etc it could be less but most places say theres not much point putting new internals in old casings so I can see their logic.
£2500 gives you new housings, seals, gaskets etc, you could make it slightly cheaper by just having new seals and using old gaskets, but no one I have spoken to has reccomended that
Personally I think new gaskets are a must as are new seal springs etc, whats the point of scraping crap of old ones and using them ?! I\'d rather get new bits and get the corresponding warranty that comes with them
£2500 covers rebuild parts and labour on taking the engine out and reinstalling it
If you want porting or there is damage to any other parts then the price goes up accordingly
Dave
:(
Yeah I think your right, if your gonna do it you have to do it properly. £2500 seems a better price than your original quote though, and not to bad considering its engeine renmoval and strip down.:)
Andy, it happens to the best of us, and its lasted fecking ages so I\'m not too bothered to be honest :)
Sad to say I will most likely be swapping it for a Trevor, but I may be persuded to keep it not sure yet

The maintenance costs scared me away, on most modesl you have to dismantle body parts for simple maintenence.
So I was informed anyway, all IMO of course. They do look and sound great though.
can\'t you buy the rebuild dvd and do it yaself ;)
nah that sucks, you mustn\'t let a silly thing like a rebuild get in the way of pure enjoyment. That\'s what the halifax 9 months interest free cc was designed for! :D
...I remember the time you took me out in her and that man had his heck so arched he nearly walked into the lampost :(
...ooo and the guy at mcdonalds who just stood in the middle of the carpark drooling and not moving!!!
happy time *sniff* ;)
hmm well I will be looking into it a bit more, but the problem I always had was that my dad was not too familiar with Rotaries but knows his way round a v8, but well see ! :)
they sound amazing, std 0-60 is 4.1 on a Cerbera !
Dave
well Andy I might keep her, you never know ! :)
well if ya get a trever you\'ll spend more on busted termostats than on a rebuild hehe... I\'ve always been tempted by them thou have to admit bit common these days thou...a nice cobra would appeal more now hehe..
u got one of the sexiest 7\'s though... imo that looks far better than a trev / cob :)
Ifd you are going to keep her, then Carl is only 20 (?) miles down the road from Rotechnics at Newbury.

Oh yes... A nice Gardner-Douglas with a triple rotor... HUGE engine bay, plenty of space, and with the turbo\'s all plumbed in... *grin*
