just bought a 92 twin turbo fd3 and was wondering what oil do i need to use as it is getting low??
The official word from mazda is mineral 10w40 i think. Use the search button at the top and you\'ll see load of discussion on what oil to use.
i use mineral oil no grade
do a search? this must be about the most covered topic.
tried a search first of all but couldnt find the info
I use plain old Castrol GTX.
this is a topic thats been well covered by all the rotary sites and some swear by mineral and a semi-synthetic, at the end of the day there are reasons to use mineral compared to a semi but then i have read so many convincing stories from builders that a good quality semi has had no long term side affects. I really think you should read any info you can get and then decide for yourself. Personally i always use a mineral as its the safest bet as i really could not be swayed into going for a semi-synthetic...........just yet.
highly debated topic this one you need to do alot of reading then make up your own mind mazda state the use of mineral oil only
Castrol GTX. As it burns all the oil and does not leave any residue. HTH

are there various grades of GTX ? if so what version do you use and how does it burn all the oil compared to another brand. Quite intersted in this as it gives me more options as i can only get the Halfords mineral oil.
i was recomended 0w40 fully synthetic castrol edge for high performance engines i hope thats not the wrong grade:mad:
Tesco sell 10W 40 Castrol GTX, which is a mineral oil for £12.99 per 4 litres.
I avoid any GTX marked \'for older cars\' because it states on the bottle \'seal conditioners in it\' - to me that means residue when burnt in a rotary. The Tesco oil doesn\'t say that.

Edge is top quality and 0W is better than 10W, but it\'s the old synthetic/mineral oil discussion again Stocky. I would wait until the next oil change then follow the handbook exactly.

Just the standard GTX mineral oil, I was told along time ago not to use synthetic oil of any type as it does not fully burn off and can leave residue inside the engine that can cause problems with your seals etc.
I have always used GTX and have not had any problems and I do run a lot of power ( As per sig ). I now run pre-mix and thats a mineral 2/stroke and I still use GTX as the engine oil.
