Title: Fitting A Dump Valve To A Turbo II
Post by: Paul_Read on February 21, 2003, 07:36:40 PM
Im wondering if any of you guys have experience in fitting a dump valve to a Turbo II Convertible? Ive removed the stock plastic dump valve and relpaced it for a standard baileys type and the car wont idle, let alone run. Any help and advice will be much appreciated.
Cheers,

Paul :D

Have you blocked off the hole in the Inlet pipe? (where the stock BOV returns the air) This will cause it to run lean if at all.

The stock BOV on my car opens on Idle (duno why?) and if its conected so it dumps externaly it will Idle realy badly. I had a HKS BOV on mine for a bit and that was fine.

I havent blocked any pipes off i removed the stock dump valve and put a replacement straight in the end of the small pipe which comes from the intercooler hose, this leaves a hole in the airbox, i then connected the vacum, the car will run but not idle, did u say i should block something off to make it work, i just seems odd because the stock valve comes from the intercooler hose and into the air box when i remove it this leaves a hole in the airbox am i fitting it correctly

Thanks

Ok, sorry i have just checked mine and your right it does go to the air box on a stocker (Forgot i had an Aftermarket Airflow sencer to turbo pipe fitted Oops)

It does sound correctly fitted, you could do with blocking the air box hole up but thats only due to the Hole beeing after the Filter.

First thing is try puting the Stock one back on and see if its still got a fault.

If so try taking the Intercooler off the top of the Engine, then check the rubber pipe that comes of the Plastic (IC/Turbo) pipe (goes to a Valve on the Inlet manifold) is\'nt cracked (also a common fault) they tend to dry out with age and go hard when you move the Plastic pipe they crack and leak.

If not then your BOV is to blame.

Did you simply swap the valve over or did you take all this off to do the Job? It may be somthing as simple as a leaking BOV or you may have mored somthing out of place and caused an air leak.

Is the BOV the only thing you have fitted?

i was working on my car yesterday and remembered this thread. it looked like the air flow return from the dump valve goes behind the air flow meter, this would mean unmonitered air flow into the engine so it will have to be blocked.

Right i have the a parts diagram for that side of the engine hear and the stock system looks like the Bov returns the air to the lower section of the air box before the MAF sencer.

The MAF to Turbo should have two small vacume hoses coming from it and thats all. I had a aftermarket air flow sencer and pipe fitted to mine so the BOV returned the air right into the Turbo\'s intake blades but it did\'nt do alot (other than make the MAF sencer alot bigger bore) this is why i was Confused but to make thing easyer just block the hole up any way as it alows dirty air behind the Filter.
