Hi everyone,
as you can guess from the title, my airpump has busted! Was happily driving along and heard a loud screeching noise from the engine and a load of smoke just before the engine cut out! Luckily i was pulling into a petrol station. With a bit of advice from Jit (cheers buddy) figured out it was the airpump that had broken and was stopping the pulleys spinning. Disconnected it and the car is running again. However there is a slight problem/dilemma i need everyones help with.
1) The car seems to be idling a lot lower than before, around the 700rpm mark. It sounds as if it will stall and is really annoying.
2) When accelerating it is fine above 3000rpm, but whenever i take my foot off the gas, the revs drop very very quickly and it makes the car quite jerky.
3) The car isnt as loud as it was before at low revs(yes yes i know this isnt really a problem) and im guessing it is to do with the fact the extra air from the pump isnt hitting the Cat.
I have a 1994 R2 with stock everything except a big bore dual pipe catback. It has recently been serviced and has always run fine.
Spoek to Clive and he recommended the airpump removal kit (belt and blanking plates) which sounds good. However my only concern is that im running a stock Cat and and ECU. I have search on this forum and the interweb and have come across conflicting information. I am worried about my Cat being burnt out without the airpump. This wouldnt be a problem if i decat but i dont have the financial means to decat and then get a PFC(to deal with resulting boost spikes) just yet.
What should i do? Replace the airpump? or remove it and hope it runs ok for the next 4 months? does anyone have a spare airpump?
Cheers:confused:
I can check my shed I should have a spare airpump, you can have it for free if you want one??

I\'ve got one you\'re welcome to if you cover postage as well :)
cheers guys, i appreciate the help. So do you think replacing the airpump is the way to go?
Im a long way off serious PFC/exhaust tuning right now so my mind is telling me to get an airpump.
Thanks for the offers, yes i can cover postage. Any idea how much that would be? im based in north west london so could maybe collect one evening this week?

No worries mate. Don\'t get another one, you look like a sensible chap. Having more than one is for people like me who\'s lost the plot, and need their head tested. LOL
See you around.
