Title: widest tyres
Post by: the jackel on March 10, 2008, 11:31:30 AM
I am looking at getting some 17s. I have looked around and the couple I like are 8j at the widest. What is the widest tyres I can get on this size rims or am I just wasting my time?

If these rims are viable what set up should I go with? Different widths front and back or keep them the same? The car is pretty much stock power wise and styling wise and I have no plans on going big power in the future

Thanks
Mike

245 wide, probably. Not too much point in going very wide at the front, will make steering more sluggish and tend to tramline and follow road imperfections (and cost more!)

So by that I think 225 front and 245 rear. What profiles anyone?

I may add some lowering springs as well. Will this make a difference to the tyre size I should choose. Anyone recommend a good set of springs?

depending on how much you lower it by, keep an eye on the profile of the tyres or just get your arches rolles in a little. i have 17\'s on my fd and have 235\'s front and 255\'s rear which works v well...

tyres do make a big big difference on fd\'s as on japanese rubber i struggled to lay down full bost in 2nd and sometimes even spun in 3rd, but i fitted on some new dunlops this saturday and i cannot stress enough the difference

I was thinking about eibach springs, so around 25mm. I would go with the tyre you say as that is what Mazda put on the 99 spec but I am not so sure I could get 255 on an 8j rim. I guess that is ultimately what I am asking, is it possible. If not what is the next best option?
