Title: I was told something about my car......
Post by: tophalf on March 05, 2008, 02:47:24 PM
Hello all,
I am quite new to this forum but have had an RX-7 since January of 07. I am first private owner in the uk and it\'s done about 38,000miles. It is a 1995 Type-R import, twin turbo etc. When I bought it the guy said it was a Bathurst, nothing written anywhere to confirm this so I am none the wiser on what makes it so. :xconfused

Anyway, the main point, I put it on Ebay in a moment of madness a little while ago and I took a photo of the cars ID tag. Someone who came across very knowledgable gave me a call (he said he owned a pink RX-7 with "I think" has a triple or quad rotor (it may have only been triple) that was running MAD bhp and quarter mile times. He was interested in my car as his was also MAD on fuel and he fancied another for the road. He told me that mine has a C300 body, as is diplayed on the tag. Due to this he said that I had mis-advertised my car as having between 250 to 280bhp!! I thought "great, now I look a fool, it only runs 220 or whatever". But no, apparently a C300 body means it\'s limited edition and runs 350bhp. I can\'t find this as a fact anywhere on the net so is there anyone on here who has any info, knows more about this? It has a standard intercooler, decent air filters, twin turbo an I think it\'s de-cat running to a decent back box. Sorry for the ignorance on the make of parts, it has sat in my garage a lot. I have to admit that the car does feel quite quick. I ride a ZX10-R and have had a few "tweaked" performance cars and I am still impressed by my RX, big grins when I drive it :) .

Thanks for any info.

trust me that guy who gave you a call is talking sh1t big time :rollin

You have 255bhp as standard for a Type R model 1995. The 99 specs had up to 280bhp, no FD rx7 was ever produced with 350 as standard.

The only 3 Rotor "pink" RX-7 I know in this country used to be (still might be) owned by roundabout toys... the guy\'s on here and his username is roundabout_now or something.

T\'was featured in redline years ago.

Cheers for that.  Maybe I am just impressed cos these cars are just fantastic to drive!!
Not sure who the guy was that rang me, don\'t want to say it was the roundabout guy as there may be more than one pink one.  Must admit though I don\'t like someone trying to fool me like this, not something I would do, will be relying on this forum from now on I think.
Thanks again.

There is only 1 pink triple rotor so has to be the same guy. Dont know if it was sold on from roundabout toys??I know he talked about selling it when it went wrong at Rotorstock 1 or 2???????. WGT took it on and sorted it out for him i think.

Wotcher, mate. Does sound suspiciously like bo!!ocks what the guy was telling you, but its a strange way for him to go about buying the car off you, if that\'s really what he wanted! "By the way, your car I\'m looking at buying is an uber-rare special edition, please put the reserve price up by a thousand quid!"

I know what you mean about the Rex feeling quick even when you\'re used to bikes. I\'ve had two \'Blades and a ZX636 since owning my RX, and it\'s still a damn good laugh in compariason. I think its probably down to the way it delivers the power, a bit like an Elsie on acid. Is your ZX10 the original insane one? I had a go on my mates\' one for about thirty miles or so, could never find a long enough bit of road to get out of third gear! Mad, mad bike!

Feel free to ask anything (rotary related ;) ) on here as there is a wealth of information and loads of knowledgable guys & gals around. Also remember the search function is your friend, most things have been asked before and you might find some useful hints and tips.

The guy lives in Chester-le-Street ( Newcastle for you southern people) and he said he owns a performance garage. Did think it was strange to say how “special” it is then only offer £4,500, hmmm.:o
The Kwak is the original insane version, 3rd gear, 100mph, roll on throttle and the front wheel reaches for the sky, fun but as you said it’s a bit mad. Was thinking of getting rid for a 636 actually, how do they compare to your Blades that you owned?
How do I know if my Rx is a Bathurst

I think (and I\'m sure someone who knows better\'ll be along soon!) that the original Bathurst was a limited edition run of like 300, 350 cars based on an R-II built to commemorate winning the Bathurst 12-hour in Aus three times running, and these original ones had special decals and bits.

After the limited edition run I think that it eventually became the default option in the Type-R range cos it came without a stereo and other stuff making it cheaper. Dunno about the model codes, though, sorry. Mine says "Special Edition" on it, but so do loads of others I\'ve seen. Deciphering them seems to be a bit of a specialist subject.

The 636 is loads more fun than a Blade. My last was an \'02 model, fast as anything, but just very Honda, y\'know, uninvolving. Unless you were at 130mph everywhere you felt it was just riding itself. The 636 (mines an 06) is excellent, makes good noises, corners like a housefly and is still fast enough. Hasn\'t got the instant teleport grunt of the Blade, but loads more fun to ride.

Does the type r not come with 276bhp as standard? i thought it was the touring versions which came with 255 and type R and RII\'s came with 280ps???

thanks

Get your self an 07/08 R1, over 100mph in 1st and over 1bhp per kilo. Decent power to weight to nip you along :)  They handle damn well too.

Does that not make anything after 1st gear a little redundant though, on the road at least? I genuinely think that litre  bikes are now at the point where they\'re too fast for their environment. Not because I\'m some old, boring anti-speed safety nazi, quite the opposite, but more because they make such massive speeds so easy to achieve and so unexiting through their huge level of competancy. Like I said earlier, unless you\'re above 130, you just don\'t feel involved, and you can\'t ride like that forever without coming seriously unwrapped one way or another.

I\'d rather ride a less powerful bike at 90% of its ability than a more powerful one at 50%. It may be slower, but at least I feel I\'m achieving something. That\'s why I love the Rex, when you drive it with attitude it\'s always twitching and wtriggling to remind you that there\'s a limit there somewhere. "Any more right boot, sunshine, and I\'m going to show you where you\'ve just come from!"

Got to admit I kinda like the R1\'s, I had a \'98 model and that was mad as a hatter, total wheelie fest and really fun.  Only thing was it felt a little flimsy and not as well put together in comparison to the the Blade I had owned prior.  My ZX10-R does over 100mph in 1st also an the power, although not right through the rev range, don\'t want to start debating power v\'s torque etc as it gets messy, I\'ll call it "drive/rideability" is more at the upper end of the rev range.  This is turnin into a bike forum :Laugh.

As for the Bathurst thing, cheers for answering, mine does say special edition also.  What bugs me I suppose is for whatever reason someone tried to pull the wool over my eyes in one way or another:Grrr .  Another reason I am glad to have found this forum, lots of good honest information :) .

Long live bikes an RX\'s!!!!:D

Makes perfect sense. I now have to resign myself to life with a bog stock Type R, then. No bad thing, and it\'s cleared up something I\'d wondered about for ages!
