I upgraded my front brakes to AP 4 Pots 2 years ago (one of the best mods I ever made to my car). Are there any benefits to upgrading the rear brakes and if so what are the potential options?
option are limited mazdarotaryparts do a big rear disc conversion but not cheap
other than that just uprate pads..i would do the bigger disc conversion later purely for cosmetic to balance the fronts..i have the ap 4 pots as well
Is that it? damn, here was I thinking I could improve the RXs stopping power even more. Bigger disks I guess would help disapate the heat a bit more.
Cheers for the info.
The later (very expensive) 315mm dia RX-7 disks require a change to a 17" rim. The 16" rims touch the caliper, at least on the front.
I only tried the fronts before looking for a brick wall to headbutt.

I\'ve often wondered about that. If you do a big brake upgrade at the front, surely you are shifting all the braking to the front, the rears must end up do hardly anything? If this is right wouldnt this unsettle the car under heavy braking?
K Sport do both the front and rear big brake conversions and a good price aswell, not sure if they are any good thou

The k-sports are d2 fyi dunno if that helps you at all.
There was a compnay on the RX7Club forum that did a large upgraded rear setup for the FD.
Cant remember their name, but they made everything from the bells for the discs (2 piece setup) and the mounting bracket for the calliper.

We are due to offer a 4 pot 320mm rear brake conversion. It even retains the handbrake!
They are going to be used on our race cars!!
ive got willwood 6 pots on the front and willwood 4 pots on the rear....clever custom setup allowed me to keep the handbrake also..had this set up since early 2006.....definately worth it IMO...
Do you have more info on that?
I would like a upgrade all around but no handbrake is a big no go for me.
Rather than go for custom setups....we are now supplying a rear calliper with a built in handbrake.....the full kit is
330mm x 32mm disc on 4 pot calliper
Complete kit is £1586.50 or £1507.18 for full members
my setup only a few ever made...i have the only one in the country....so no more i\'m afraid.....
atomic\'s sounds good though....any pics mate?....and what make are they?
No pictures as yet, but we will have our first batch through in the next couple of weeks. We\'ve had them made for us under our own brand....run with an AP pad pattern
what sort of testing has been done on these? coz as you know braking is no trivial matter....many calipers have an AP pad configuration but some are far better than others..many lesser known companys are doing a caliper with intergrated hand brake systems.....so if you could enlighten us that would be good....( not necessarily about the manufacturer...although it would be good, but about the testing)
as a side view, I laugh at people who get those k sport or d sport thingy\'s on their car with 8 and 10 pots!!!...and reckon they got a good deal.....oh well each to their own!
cheers
Don\'t worry the brakes are well tested, we will be using them on our own race cars too, and believe me I\'m with you on the non-trivial matter over braking, so if I\'m happy to run with them on our own cars in what has to be the harshest of conditions then I\'m confident to positive that they will be perfect for the road!
what brand are they atomicrex? I was going to go with the Project MU brakes.
They are our own brand
All I can say is they will do the job perfectly! That we guarantee!!!
They are just being finished at the moment, should be with us in the next couple of weeks
