Title: Should i just go single???
Post by: chrisJDM on February 29, 2008, 10:20:23 PM
ive had my fd for 3 years now and its changed quite a bit since ive had it.  ive had a rebuild and done quite a few other mods and all along ive had problems with my first turbo, to start with it didnt work at all then i took it to dragon and he got it working a bit, then i got a apexi power fc fitted and mapped and found out the second turbo was running spot on and the first very slow building up boost and only getting to about 0.4bar, then i had a mate play around with it and its improved slightly now making 0.6bar but still slow building up boost.  Ive had a mate (davehg) check it over and we tested the solenoids and all was ok, changed a few tubes but no improvement.  Even with these issues the car goes very well and in a way seems like a very small single, you get a big kick when the second tbby comes in.  I am sort of happy with it but i know in the back of my mind it could be better and i keep thinking maybe i am better off just saving up and going single turbo.  The car is currently of the road and i dont have a great deal of money, i was hoping to get it back on the road in the summer but i could just leave it of the road for a little longer and save up for a turbo kit.  What are others opininos on this?

here is the current spec of my engine

rebuilt street ported engine
standard twins mapped to 1.0 although as you can see only second turbo gets anywhere near
apexi power fc
greddy profec b boost controller
uprated downpipe, silenced decat, apexi cat back exhaust
1600cc secondary injectors
uprated nippondenso ful pump and fuel rails
greddy front mount intercooler
greddy induction kit
venturi dump valve
koyo rad
air pump removed
air con removed

Looks like you\'ve got most of the supporting mods, but unless you\'re handy with spanners it can cost quite a bit! Not to mention you\'ll need a remap regardless. You\'ll be needing new manifold, dp, wg, hotside intercooler pipes, oil and water fittings, block off plates, and maybe cold plugs and ignition amp.

If I were you I\'d get it on road and enjoy it this summer and think about going single when it\'s off road next winter.

All depends what you are planning to do with the car i guess,

Going single seems the best next route as all major supporting mods are in place already, although might be easier to sell yours then buy a already single\'d rx ??? :Laugh

well ive got to the stage where i cant really get any more gain from the twins, i usually just use the car for street but am looking to get into a few track days and want to test it out on the quarter mile aswell.
mapping and fitting arent really a problem its just the cost of the kit really.

o i forgot to mention i have a water injection kit ready to be fitted and also a act 6 puck clutch ready to go on

I had the same question and decided to go for a smallish turbo. Got a GT3574 from A-spec coming in about 3 weeks hopefully ! I\'ve gone for the smallest A/R but you could probably run 1.06 with a streetported engine.

Hey

Have a look at our conversions....you can choose between us fitting the turbo, or you can fit it yourself.

Got 2 kits left in stock at the moment.

get a rising rate fuel pressure regulator, then bolt on the kit and remap.  Should be pretty sweet
