Title: fitting a short shifter
Post by: Johnerz on February 28, 2008, 01:04:19 PM
hello,
my short shifter and ast arrived and im going to fit them this weekend but the instructions are in japanese.

has anyone fitted a re-amemiya short shifter?  if so i have 2 questions

1) which way round does the shifter go (sounds silly)  but it isnt straight but the shaft looks set off a bit

2) which if any of the oem shifter parts get refitted?  the pics on the instructions just make it seem like you remove oem shifter and spacers etc and whack that new one in?

can anyone advise?

thanks

I\'ve fitted an RE-A D1 shifter, it\'s pretty stright forward.
All the original parts except the nylon collar on the end of the shifter are just fitted to the new shifter. Assuming it has come with a new brass collar.
Be careful when taking the old collar out mind, it\'s easy to drop somewhere you don\'t want it to as it will more thanlikely be covered in oil, and just make sure the new collar is located correctly. But it ispretty much a drop in job, fitting is a reversal of removal with replacing the collar and the shifter itself.

I would guess it should face back into the car, but just check the bottom of the shaft as there is a large groove milled out of the spherical joint and this needs to line up in the housing, you can\'t go wrong really though, cos if it doesn\'t line up you won\'t be able to bolt the shifter into place.
