Hi,
Been checking out a number of RX7\'s for sale with single turbo conversions and noticed one or two do not have any air filtration attached to the inlet of the turbo.
Is this okay ?
I assumed the filter would stop any usual engine bay debrise entering inlet and causing damage etc, or am I wrong ?
Any advice would be appreciated,
Thanks
Chris
they are off just to take pics of the turbo inlet etc mate. only see no filter on drag cars tbh
The one i\'ve just come back from seeing had a piece of gauze other the turbo intake rather than a filter.
I can\'t imagine running filterless will do much good, although i did run my 206 on throttle bodies without filters for a while and didn\'t cause any damage.
personally i wud put a filter on - circuit cars etc need no filter cause they want as much air plus they can afford to keep replacing turbos! road wise i wud put filter in less u want a rock going through and smashing the blades. my old stock twin blew up cus a bit of foam from my ARC intake fell in and it shattered the blade!!! - interesting day as i recall a year ago
Never run without a filter, thats just begging for trouble. :wave
only drag cars run without filter or just guaze on the actual drag runs themselves, if its a street legal drag car many guys put the filter back on for road use after drag strip use. too much crap on the roads to risk it
thats definetly just asking for trouble i know someone who took the filter of to warm the car up, sucked something in and blew the rear rotor.
Definite engine suicide! It\'s not like a piston engine where it might suck in a bit of crud, bounce it about a bit on top of the piston and spit it out again and unless it hit a valve in the process, probably be fine. A rotary\'d whizz whatever the foreign body is round the housing a few times a second, probably scoring the hell out of it in the process and doing god knows what to the seals. Not nice!
My 206 sucked an air filter sock through and spat it out the other end and ran fine, lol!
if that had been a rotary it would have killed your engine
use a pair of tights mate, works a charm
Metal gauze will stop big bit going in and causing your turbo to fail. But without a proper filter you will reduce engine life rotary or not i guess it\'s probably a bit like putting cutting compound in your engine.

Kinky devil! :D
What do you use them for, exactly? Are we still talking air filters here?
Intake Filter tests :Talking1 :

my mates old 3.o turbo supra has a pair of tights instead of an air box, sound awesome and a difference in power lol:rollin
