Title: Missfire and strange noises
Post by: rx7bulldog on February 22, 2008, 10:52:16 PM
Hi all,

I\'m starting to get a few running problems with my rex and just wondered if anybody has an opinion on what they think is going on. Basicly the the car starts fine hot or cold but when I build up the revs quite high or you put it in gear and pull off quickly it backfires once or twice like a loud gun going off and keeps missfiring, I can poodle the car about fine but when the engine is under load this is what happens.
Also I have noticed my dump valve is pushing out air on idle and if you rev the car high when the revs come down my induction kit is making a whuring noise as if it is struggling.
Is this rebuild time? Has it given up the ghost? or maybe an air flow problem? please help!:Hammer

sounds like my car before i removed the air pump, bangs and pops are common, the fresh air supplied by the air pump is being ignited in your exhaust.
you know you engine needs a rebuild when you have problems with hot starts = low compression, or overheating and/or water consumption = blown water seal.

my advice is to rag the tits out of it and see if it really is broken :-)

I have put new plugs in today and it does seem smoother as the old plugs were well soooted up. I wonder if the the car is over fuelling. Maybe I should disconnect the air pump as there is no cat left and get a blanking plate. There is no excesive water or oil consumption and it doesn\'t over heat but something is definatley different with the air intake. Do any sensors control this and is it worth getting a diagnosis plug in?
