Well, my car is here, and after driving it on feather throttle yesterday i gave it a bit more throttle. The car builds good, early boost, but when it comes on boost there is a pit of snakes under the bonnet.
It was a tad late when i got home last night, but I\'m going ot look later today.
Any guesses on what it could be? I presume it\'s an air leak, and my first thought is disconnected and not bunged air pump?
yep sounds like an air leak, probably a split coupler
Buggrit, I knew it!
Looks like UIM off this week then.
It\'s pretty impressively loud, more so than any leak i\'ve ever had before (and my s14 was prone to splitting piping!) So i\'d imagine it was a reasonably substantial leak.
you sure its not just an intercooler pipe loose, has a hole or anything like that, sounds similar to when one of my intercooler pipes was loose
Thats what I mean by couplers, the silicon/rubber that connects the intercooling piping together.
First look at the coupler that connects the twin turbo pack to the crossover tube, they always split are hidden by the jublee clips
Okeydoke, will ge tthe torch out later :)
Still on stock twins, and i plan to keep it that was, 0.5 bar at 1800 revs, brilliant! :D
Cheers guys, I\'ll see what i can find - seems ot be coming from drivers side so y pipe would make sense, doesn\'t seem to be under the car as i imagine the air pump would sound like.
do you still have some of the plastic/rubber hoses aswell as ive heard they can have splits that you cannot see very easily and when on boost the pipes expand and let out the boost pressure
Pipework is stock except for an upper HKS hard pipe.
Most of it\'s coming out soon anyways :D but i\'ll see what i can find tonight :)
Cheers for the pointers peeps :)
happens all the time, lift the brace up pop the pipe back on, and pop the brace back, jobs a gooden
id say its a intercooler pipe, clamp too :) i had this after the last remap, 2 mins away fae pips n it poped off n i pooooooooooooooooo`d oneselfs bigtime!
Yet another reason to sort out this V-mount :D
cheers guys :)
Okeydoke, right, found two potential sources - joiners all seemed ok and tight, no splits - however, First of all there is a pipe to stock airbox that was not connected to anything.
This one (I\'ve disconnected it at the top)

But, I\'ve also stripped a load of stuff off to check as much of the rat\'s nest as i can, and there are 2 metal pipe ends that are not connected to anything. You can just see them here - the one by my finger, and another one in the middle:

Anyone got any idea where these should be connected to? I\'m thinking of just trying them together :D
I\'ve got a pipe, maybe 2 not connected to anything in the rats nest, I think this is normal, and they are meant to be used for the egr, if you live in California or somewhere where the egr is required. I may be wrong though.
But as I said I know my rats nest has no connection to a couple of the metal pipes, but there is nothing connected to the other end either so is not needed.
I think there are sometimes a few pipes in the rats nest that are not connected to anything so thats just normal. You want to connect that other pipe up to the airbox although i dont think that would cause the problem you are getting. It may be a good idea to take off all the intercooler hoses and check them over properly especially the plastic ones as they can split and you wont be able to see it very well. Then put it all back together and make sure its all tight.
Well, i got carried away, and the uim is off and i\'m about to take the acv out :D
there are possibly 4 unconnected pipes though :( i\'ll take photos...
I\'ve got air filter etc to fit, but i\'m tempted to reassemble with stock bits to check it runs ok with them
its very hard to work out which hoses are for what in the rats nest you may have to contact one of the experts, although i have found this site with a few diagrams if you can work out which ones are which

Cheers dude, i\'d printed some of those out to use as references, but i\'m still a bit confused!
There are 2 bits of hard pipe that aren\'t connected to anything, but the car seemed to boost well before, so i figure if it ain\'t broke...
Took the UIM off to fit the blanking plates for the air pump and acv removal, so i mya as well replace some hoses while i\'m there :)
best bets just replace them all bud :) buy a scalpal an some needle nost pliers, slice the end on the host and gently twist with the pliers and they`ll pop of without breaking anything :)
Also theres a few hoses connected to the turbo pack that may be split.
I think that airbox pipe is supposed to just dangle in thin air under the airbox. Isn\'t that the one that comes from the separate chamber in the box as part of the airpump anti-mooing system?
Won\'t any boost pipes produce vacuum at idle? Therefore stick your finger on the end of the pipes and if there is a vacuum there then that will be a problem when on boost?
