Right,
The car i was supposed to be going to see this weekend is starting to reveal problems already.
Upon asking for an up to date odometer reading it has become apparent that this along with the speedo and rev counter aren\'t working. Having searched on here, FDUK and also RX7 Club this seems to be down to a problem with capacitors and quite a common problem.
The problem in it\'s self isn\'t a show stopper, however i find it odd that a mileage wasn\'t listed in the original advert and when i request this it can\'t be given. There is also the fact that this problem could have been on going for a while and the stated mileage on the engine is widly optomistic.
Would a compression test show whether or not the mileage stated is infact correct or even with a car check and compression test am i still gambling? Any help appreciated.
Thanks
Tim
At what mileage was the engine rebuilt? The warranty for the rebuild would have this or the company who did it. Also the space of time since the rebuild should give an indication if you base it on old mots you have an idea of the annual milege of the vehicle. If its all been broken for some time however you have no chance figuring it out.
Strange how all cars coming into the coutry have similar milege though at 40-50,000
It was rebuilt back in 2005 and had around 138k km\'s on the clock. The engine is said to now have around 11k on it and the latest MOT reads 149k\'s. It has a speedo convertor so that sort of brings it inline with what he says.
But am i right in thinking mileage is a manual entry at an MOT test so if he knows the tester this can be spoofed, "Ohh just sling an extra 10k on it" I suppose if it has evidence of older MOT\'s to sort of confirm mileage then that might back up the claim.
Apparently it\'s spent most of the last year at Dragon, i guess they confirm or dney this if i end up going down.
Can anyone tell me what sort of compression figures i should expect to see on an engine that was rebuilt 2.5 years ago and has a mileage of about 11k?
At a guess mid to low 7\'s?
Yes mileage is manually entered by the MOT tester.
Cheers :)
Just need to get an idea of compression results if anyone can help please speak up!
umm.. think u should be fairly happy with 7+ on 3 yr old rebuild...
Timm do you want to save hassle and come and look at mine?
its a twin turbo thats been loved dearly.
I have spent nearly 4k on it in two years on bits and when i bought it it had 7.9 compression and ive done maybe 10-12k?
thinking of moving away so cant take two cars with me, as i only drive this on the odd weekend i may as well sell?
If it\'s around mid 7\'s then it\'ll have a fair amount of whack left in it, in which case go for it if you like the car.
If it\'s under the 7 mark then I seriously doubt it only 11K on the engine, in which case i\'d either walk away, or use it as a point to knock some money off the asking price.
As you said though, if it has indeed been at dragon for that long im sure a quick phone call would aid in your decision.
Good luck!
I\'ve spoken with Dragon who know the car, i\'m going to call Dragon again on Friday to confirm my visit so will ask then.
My decision to buy it hinges on the reaction of Dragon really.
FD3SNuttah: By all means email me spec and photos to tim.darracott@gmail.com (tim.darracott@gmail.com)

You can buy mine for the right price and pay someone to rebuild it if you are interested
