Title: Fuel Leak!
Post by: Brian Bell on February 19, 2008, 02:08:23 PM
I have just filled the tank on my car and I have fuel dripping onto the ground 30 miles later!

I have not filled the tank for some time so I suspect it is leaking somewhere near the seam?

Does anyone have any experience of this and where can i get a new tank??

Cheers

So the problem will cure itself by the time I get home as I will have used 1/4 tank! I will look for new but havent had much joy so far!

Thanks Mark

Try black dragon automotive, they do almost everything brand new for 79>85 RX7\'s.
Theyre based in US,so postage will cost.Worth a try.
If no luck there try Mazdatrix in US also.
I think it\'ll be virtually impossible to track down a new tank in UK.

I did wonder that or whether it was the breather pipes blowing back?? but if it was would they still be leaking 30 miles of part urban so a gallon and a bit later??

Easy way to check,
Fill tank up from petrol cans & see where its coming from,if no joy, jack up rear of car to see if it leaks then.
Ta
It wont be a fuel outlet pipe as it would leak all the time.

I just hope they do it for that price as the original quote when David Nock was enquiring was £100 more, the dealer passed on the saving.

as you look at the car from the back it will be the left hand side that will leak
the tank may be as bad as this one

Hi guys, My dealer at JCT 600 Wakefield (Mark), was up for supplying anyone who enquired. He has already supplied one to another FB owner after me.My price of £173 included VAT and shipping, but you\'d then have to get it then to your home. Part No. on my paperwork for 1985 Series 3 is FA5442110; I would guess they\'re all the same for all 1st gens, later cars had a drain plug added.
JCT600 tel is 0113 231 9793. I know thats a Leeds No., but JCT route these specialist spares calls to JCT in Wakefield.
Out of interest, my tanks still on the garage shelf. I\'m running on half tanks of fuel till the weather picks up.
Plus there\'s a diff swop looming first!

Yes, its the seam at the filler point. There\'s a ledge that gets dirt and water spray that you cannot access unless the tank is dropped.

i believe the tank shape is different on the s1-2 and s3 it maybe becasue of a larger diff? and the change may be why it only seems to be the s3 affected

Right didn\'t know that, thanks Mark, anyway the Part No. I gave is for a 1984/85 Series 3, which I think is what Brian is enquiring about.

The tanks are different.
Mazdatrix has diff part nos for s1,s2 & s3 tanks.
S1 tanks no longer available.
Get your new s3 tanks while you can!!!
Anybody hear that the EU are thinking about restricting the use of cars over 10 years old!

DEADLINE 18/03/2008

"Several EU proposals across the years are dangerous to the classic car movement. One that has been under consideration is to ban the use of cars older than 10 years. Similarly, Edinburgh City Council is considering the banning of cars over 15 years old from the town centre. These, and similar, proposals directly threaten the classic car movement, and encourage the manufacture of new cars, with the attendent environmental issues of sourcing raw materials, manufacturing, distriuting and scrapping the spiralling supply of new vehicles."
