Title: De-cat pipe on a stock FD
Post by: damehyndman on February 16, 2008, 12:13:39 PM
Hi,

If you fit a de-cat pipe on a stock FD without fixing an apexi etc, is this bad news for the engine etc?

I wouldn\'t, it will make it prone to boost spikes.
May be ok if the rest of the car is stock, but depends on how safe you like to play it. I certainly wouldn\'t do it without a boost gauge at the very least, so you could see what boost you were running.

yeahwhat ^^^^ he said lol.. fitting a decat causes your boost pressure to shoot up n down with no real control, so u could hammer it and be sitting at 0.7bar, then a sec later 1.3 bar, then down to 1.0 bar.. ect.. not worth the risk bud..

Thought you might say something like that :(
So it\'s a boost gauge and an Apexi right? If I\'m running stock what sort of boost is safe?

cheers,
Dame

if u fit the apexi n have it remaped i think .84 is safe, its what pip maped mine to anyways, said i needed injectors, pump n fpr for more boost, but on standard twin tubby pack u dont wanna go past .9bar
