Title: Securing / Fitting an Apexi PowerFC
Post by: RemarkLima on February 16, 2008, 09:26:43 AM
Hey all,

Just wanted to check if I\'ve got everything right, but fitted my power FC, no problems there, just mounting it I was a little concerned about as you can\'t fit the old brackets.

So I\'ve used the double sided tape to  hold it to the plastic cover of the loom going down the sill.

Then another to the chassis, also it\'s in with the Apexi logo etc facing the chassis IYSWIM, not facing the footwell. Is this right?

It seems pretty solid, but I wouldn\'t want any water ingress ;)

Also with it that way the commander plug is on the top of the ECU but I think I may have read about having the plugs face up? There\'s no way my loom would stretch that far from the looks of things...

Cheers,
Mark

Im pretty sure all factory ecu\'s are fitted with the plugs facing down which will help minimise the chance of water ingress. I would guess aftermarket ones would go with the same theory.

mines fitted with the plug up...no problems in 5 years!!!....think if you get water ingress youve got issues with your car.....mine held on with velcro....would suggest you do the same....makes things easier when mapping IMO.

OK cool, the factory ECU is fitted with the plugs facing forwards 100% sure of that, and I\'ve fitted the power FC the same. Again secured with Velcro but wasn\'t sure of the exact position or if there\'s a "trick" to it IYSWIM.

To get it fitted with the plugs facing up, surely you have to pull the loom in to the passenger area a bit? Or do you stick the ECU further forwards than stock?

Mounted mine exactly the same as you, i don\'t think the length of wiring in the loom would stretch to any other way! no probs at all!

Yes ditched brackets, used velcro pads, commander plugs into the top of Apexi, i can whip that out of sight if i leave the car anywhere a bit iffy!

The yello loom plugs from loom to ecu shopuld still poinf forwards for stock & apexi ECU.  Its just there are additional ports on the apexi for the commander which will be on top :)

Yeah, I think I\'m gonna get it mapped for just bog standard 95 RON, then with the decat ideally there\'ll be no loss in power.

I was thinking of sending a JayDee signal onto the clouds and see if I can get it mapped there as he has a good rep and is close to me... But again, I\'m not sure that it may be worth waiting until the weather warms up, as I\'m not seeing intake temps much past 10C at the mo!
