Title: Who are the top insurers I should ring?
Post by: Philo on February 14, 2008, 02:40:59 PM
With so many companies giving ridiculous quotes it would be good to know who to call. There is a sticky at the top of the insurance section however it was posted in 2004 and there are over far too many names in there to consider working down the list.

It would be fantastic if there was a short list of about 5 insurers that members here could recommend come renewal time.

So far I have had some luck with:
Elephant
AON (seems to really depend who you speak to)
Sky

I have wasted about 7 minutes each on the following:
Directline
Sureteam
Footman James

Who else should I be looking at? My car will continue to be for sale if I cant get a decent quote. :(

Herts Insurance Consultants (HIC) were very reasonable, and include free track day cover on some policies

Sky dont like to give quotes but they will drop their price loads if you can tell them you can find cheaper elsewhere.
They originally quoted me 1070 tptf
By the time I handed over the money i had got it down to 725 fully comp!

For I think who you call depends on the drivers age. Attempting to insure my 24year old fiancée on the car was a real pain in the ass. The car is also my only car which rules out cheap second car policies.

So if you are not a mature driver and this is your only car you will struggle. Try Elephant first then phone Sky. :)

Hi Phil

Try AON, they have a special scheme for full club members, see other relevant threads regarding AON.

I realise your are not currently a full member, but maybe worth giving them a call.

"Thanks, but I have already tried AON twice. The first time they point blank refused to quote me because I am under 30. The second time I was transferred through to AON from Footman james who refused to quote me because I was under 30.(yes I know it does not make sense).

AON then quoted me £450 IF i was the only driver AND it was my second car. Otherwise they were not interested. It was a close call but it would cost me more than £274 to buy tax, insure and run a second car. "
