Title: Engine removal?
Post by: royal on February 12, 2008, 08:43:28 PM
Can somebody help me out?! I\'m removing the engine and having a bit of trouble  seperating the engine from the gearbox. Its coming out slightly but doesn\'t seem to want to seperate properly and remove the flywheel from the bell housing. Is there something unusual that needs to be done with the pull type clutch? I\'m sure every engine I\'ve removed before has just pulled out after a bit of persuasion.

Did you disengage the clutch fork?

You need to undo the 6 bolts holding the clutch pressure plate to the flywheel via the square access hole on the underside of the bellhousing and then the engine will come away from the gearbox.

Hope this helps

Nice one, it was uncanny because just as you replied I was asking the missus dad who is a mechanic and he suggested that as well! Many thanks Clive.

Why wont it just pull out then? is it just a sticky first motion gear (or whatever its called) holding it onto the flywheel?

If you got it out, then I hope you answered your own question by now!

The fork is attached to the pressure plate springs. You either have to detach this, or loosen the pressure plate off the flywheel.

Thanks guys, havn\'t got back on it yet. I only get a few hours in the weekday evenings due to long work days, hence asking silly questions because I\'ve not had much time to suss it out! I should have it out tonight all being well :)
