Anyone know if an RX8 engine will fit in FB.
231bhp RX8 engine for sale on fleabay out an 07 RX8 with only 500 miles on clock for £2150.Inc all ancillaries & ecu, exhaust manifold etc.
What else would you need for swap,i\'m guessing...
Engine & gearbox mounts
Gearbox
RX8 radiator for the cooling.
Are RX8\'s rwd,if so the propshaft.
Is a RX8 engine larger externally, would it foul anything on fb.
Has anyone done this before?
I am considering doing this to mrbish\'s 79 mk1 i bought,to get this power out of an fb engine would cost more than this & the RX8 should be more reliable/economical etc...
cheers stuart.:Talking1 :2Rolleyes
I am lost for words, where did I put them
My 79 mk1 has a 12a engine in,its too slow!
The fd turbo engines dont appeal as they seem to blow up around 60>70k & i\'m not interested in faffing around with turbo\'s.
What i\'d like is a simple high revving engine, with good bhp & reliability, hence my interest in RX8 engines.
i have a brand new one for`sale

Thanks Gary,i\'ll check out your site.
Other option engine wise,i\'m used to is v8\'s.
GM LS V8\'s,new at approx £4k,400hp,a lot of bang for your bucks.
For less than £4k you could fit a street or bridge ported 13b
and you wouldnt have to change your gearbox or diff. It would be a far easier conversion. In fact once the engine is built you could do it in a day. Easy. And be out annoying the Halfords massive that evening:rollin
Also by staying with the rotary you dont have to faf with the suspension at all.
Ypu are more than welcome to look at mine to see how easy it is
:yes Thanks kiwimazda,
I would prefer to stay with rotary & not faff around with suspension.
My car will need shocks & springs doing as previous owner has cut springs down & what with worn shocks the ride is rock hard, harder than a cobra replica i have with 18 inch rims & 275x35 tyres on rear!
Any idea what sort of power the diff & gearbox would take, bearing in mind the car has a 12a engine with 122000 miles on it.
I spoke to another Rex owner with a 13b engine in 79 mk1,he said sump & timing cover had to be changed, also gearbox should be uprated as he\'s blown 2 with approx 185hp.
I know the internals of the RX8 engine are different to 13b,external dimensions/mounting points,i dont know.
With a bit of hunting around i could probably get RX8 engine, gearbox, exhaust manifolds, prop etc for approx £2.5k,as for the diff i dont know if i\'d have to change that as well?
I\'m not that far from you,so i would like to see your set up in future,i\'m not in a mad rush to do it,the car needs other work doing also....
cheers stuart

get a gen 1 s3 diff and gearbox (i have a box) its a easy upgrade and the box and diff are stronger this will also give you rear discs, if you are replacing shocks and springs you may as well replace the front to s3 bigger brakes up front then although the PCD will change to 114 x 4
Mark
Any idea what the s3 diff & gearbox are capable of handling bhp wise?
The minimum power i would want from a rotary would be 180 & if bucks permit up to 220bhp.
The 12a lump is putting out 120bhp,is it easy to get 180>220 reliable & drivable bhp out of a 13b,if so any idea of cost of this engine.
Cheers stuart
A 13B will give you 180 with a decent exhaust and inlet - give it a generous porting and you will see 250+
My race car was driven hard(and I mean hard) during 06 and 07. Not one gear box or diff failure and my 13b was putting out around 200bhp. I have now got a new 13b being built out of the remains of the first one(internal meltdown, my fault) this will have around 250bhp and I am not going to change the drive train.
Honestly I find the 114 pcd on the wheels an absolute pig. This is only because as I am racing I need wheels due to over exuberence and hitting the od kerb or 12. They in the width and off set I need rarer than hens teeth. I wish I was on Ford stud pattern. But that no matter as I might have an :god RX3 to play with soon, but thats a diffent story.
I\'m interested in your car kiwimazda.
The 13b with 200bhp,would that engine be useable as an everyday road car or only suitable for the track.
What year is your car 79 or 80?
The gearbox & diff are standard, youve not \'uprated to any s3 items apart from engine\'?
Do you still have drum brakes on the back?
Front brakes are standard as well?
Cheers stuart:Thumbs-up
Ive just seen on another thread your car is an s3,so you\'ll have discs on the rear whereas mine has drums.
Oh now,its clearer!
Peeps can get confused about all these different series under the section entitled 1st generation.
Your car sounds great,don\'t suppose you\'ll be telling everyone your exact engine specs!:Laugh
Half of the issue you need to think about with the Rx8 engine is that it has fly by wire throttle. Isn\'t the ECU hard to trick as well. You could need the rx8 dashboard and other stuff.
There is an interesting thread on rx7club in the 1st gen section.
Go for the TII engine instead.
You could get one for much, much less money. You then need the 12a front cover and a GSLE Sump. Slot the engine mount by 20mm and modify the exhaust system. Then fit an aftermarket carb or uprate the fuel pump to a high pressure one and run it off the injectors.
I\'ve got 125bhp out of my 6 port 13b but my throttle body is too small and is choking the system a little and its on gas :Giggle
Shaun
Thanks shaunwil,
I more or less know what to do now!
It\'s a 13b engine,12a front cover isnt a problem, ive got one on 12a engine the cars running at the mo!:D
The GSLE sump,do you know where to get one?
Cheers stuart.:wave
One of the Vendors should have one. I got mine off Pip at WGT in the end brand new.

Nope not just yet. Not until its running:Thumbs-up
I\'ll use the freedom of information act to coerce engine specs out of you!
Not fair to keep to yourself, when others are in such dire need.:Laugh
