Title: veeeeery slight play at rear
Post by: Martiny on February 03, 2008, 08:49:47 PM
Guys
Whilst replacing wheels on the FD, in readiness for MOT,I noticed the left rear has an eeeny weeeny tiny bit of play. I could just discern a click if I rocked it.

Is this an MOT failure?
Does it mean the bushes need replacing /  :-(

If you can move the wheel in any direction, it will fail the mot. More than likely to be the pillowball bushes. Cost around £180 delivered from malloy in the usa. Fitting them is another story though http://www.maxcooper.com/rx7/how-to/suspension/pillow_balls/index.html

My FD has just failed the MOT due to this. Been trying to find these rear bushes everywhere, and not too succesfully... Agree with Martiny, is £180 the cheapest they get?!

Look again and determine which bushings may be bad. I have the same problem on the left rear and it turned out to be the inner toe link and rear lower control arm (inner) not the pillowball.
You can get most of the bushings from Gary at Rotary art in poly but the pillowball prices are the lowest from the Malloy in States.

Both inner and outer toe links are pillowballs - just not \'the\' pillowballs :)

Most of the pillowball bushes are 25-50 quid each depending where you get them. 180 quid from Malloy is for a cars-worth I assume.

For a 35+K performance car, the bits for them and the servicing they need is a pretty frugal affair - especially in relation to the 70 quid it costs to fill the fuel tank :wiggle

Thanks for catching that, you are correct. I was referring to "the" pillowballs
