Title: Water Temp Gauge Linearization
Post by: doddy on January 28, 2008, 05:38:50 PM
Sorry if this is a repost but I tried search and only found the FD instructions for this.

Has anyone linearized their FC water temp gauge?

I always wondered why my Honda and RX7 gauges don\'t budge from center.  I sat in traffic in Fulham two summers ago in the TII and the gauge didn\'t budge.

Maybe I should just get another gauge, maybe an oil temp gauge too?

I\'ve only seen the FD instructions for this... Doesn\'t help but maybe there isn\'t a FC version about.

Must have missed this post !

I don\'t know about linearizing it, but most times, the temp gauge just comes up to half way and then stays there (if all is well).

There is one down side to this.  Where the water temp sender is located, it will read halfway or even low when you have lost water in the system - so an oil temp gauge is a good safety for this situation.

If their is coolant in the system and it does start to overheat, the FC gauges are a lot better than the FD gauges in terms of readings.  No substitute for an aftermarket temp gauge though.

i had a gauge in the top hose

the dash would read normal temp and the top hose one still showed 0 - this is due to the thermostat not opening

then after about 10 mins - the extra gauge would rise to 82 - 85

if i was really booting it - i could see about 95 - but the stock gauge didnt move a muscle

i prefered the extra guage and the extra oil temp and oil pressure - you could see when it was all nice and warm and give it some "loud pedal"
