Title: What aftermarket gauges??
Post by: Wav on February 27, 2004, 12:17:49 PM
Hi,

I like to be able to monitor what the engine is doing and my last car had an ACT temp gauge, two boost gauges (one at the turbo and one at the manifold), an additional oil pressure gauge and oil temp gauge.

Now i don\'t want the RX\'s interior looking like an F16 fighter cockpit, so the question is what additional gauges are best to have in an fd3s? Obviously a boost one would be good, and an A/F or EGT gauge. But what about oil pressure or is the OE one pretty good anyway? Oil temp? etc etc etc......

I\'m thinking of going for Autometer gauges, are these pretty good and where is the best place to buy them from?

Thanks in advance,

Paul:)

I would say:

Boost - so u can be assured that every thing is cooking with gas
Water temp - \'cause the stock one is crap
Oil temp - as its critical to the motors\' well being and u dont get one as stock

The rest are an after thought IMO; the Autometer A/F gauge will be a waste of time as it just hooks up to the stock 02 sensor which is narrow band and is used for light load work only - no help for tuning. EGT - useful when tuning but not of much conesequence on a daily basis! Oil pressure - stock gauge is shit, but I\'ve never really understood oil pressure gauges; by the time the oil pressure gauge moved enough on my Integrale the crank was shagged - they are too little too late I think!

Generally Autometers I pretty good I think, cheap as chips too.

Cheers Rich:)

Hmmm so if I were to only get 3 gauges, then my best bet would be to get oil temp, water temp, and a boost gauge.

Has anyone ever used these people, they seem pretty cheap for Autometer gauges and the website looks detailed, professional etc etc.... I hate ordering stuff over the internet, especially if they are an unknown quantity

Thanks again,

I\'ve got a spare slot in my pod for another gague so I\'m thinking a temp gague for oil and water.  Danny had a decent one that has 2 digital displays on - where did ya get it from Mr Fish?

Check out Defi gauges. put Defi in your search engine
Thinking of getting some myself with their link system.
You can control hi/lo peak for (i think) 5-off gauges
Look supper cool at night due to them being fully digital

The Defi\'s are much more expensive though, depends what you want and how much you want to pay.

Demon tweeks do temp/temp gauge for ~140 + VAT & shipping...  don\'t seem to sotck the specific water/oil temp one though.

Would possible be a touch cheaper (10 quid or so) to get it from the US...

choices choices!

One of my gauges (inlet/egt) was not availible at the time, so when I spoke to SPA about it, they made it up for me. I think they are now pre-made gauges.
