Title: fresh import from japan rx7
Post by: babz_audio on February 26, 2004, 03:01:18 PM
heres my rx7, only had it since november...import from japan, was a 1/4 mile drag racer

its a pity the engine isnt feeling well, one rotar has no compression and the tips are gone and i think the block needs replacing

It looks nice, but I wouldnt think it was a 1/4 mile car as its pretty standard apart from a couple of little bits.

Sorry to hear about your engine problems.  It does seem a common occurence on recently imported RX7\'s.

i found out it was because of the chipped ecu that was in it, and a button in the car disguised as a fog light button which i thought didnt do anything, it turns out that it runs full boost wen the button is down, its only supposed to be used for quick bursts of power

that is wat has caused all the problems...the mechanics at mazda have said that there is no compression in one of the rotars...

what to do next?

Sounds like an RE-Amemiya chipped stock ecu with the hi-low boost switch; there are a few of them about  and a couple of the non-switchable ones for sale at the moment. They just switch stock boost to 1.05bar from recollection. I had the non switched version on my car, runs very rich but managed not to blow up in 12 months of total abuse.

I doubt the ecu is to blame as RE-A a) no their rotary apples and b) in my experience programme their ecu\'s VERY rich...

Probably just tired like many others. As Lee says, its stock apart from filter under the bonnet so even with 1bar its not going to be a 1/4 mile slugger...

Nice looking car though :)

Sometimes mine does that too.
When I hit 120 it stays there and eventually flops down to max! In fact it got me out of a spot of bother with the Gardi, they said "Do you know what speed you were doing?" I said - actually no - my speedo\'s just gone kaput!!
They let me off with a "severe warning" and told me to get it fixed. It fixed itself in a few days - when I hit 120 again!! ooooeerrrr

Gutted for you m8:( Do you know what you\'re going to do about it yet? I\'m assuming you don\'t have a warranty for it.

If money is an issue I could give you a hand sorting it, I\'ve got quite a big garage, engine crane and most tools and have rebuilt many pistons engines in the past, but never a rotary. So I\'m not offering to rebuild the engine for you, I would if it were my own, but wouldn\'t risk building someone elses seing as it would be my first time   lol. But could help take the engine out then we could give it to WGT to rebuild then we can reinstall it, which could save you a grand or so :bandit :cool

Best of luck with it anyway, Kind Regards,

Paul:)

the picture amazed alot of people, i dont know wh the speedo was reading that cus the car was at stand still when the picture was taken

as for the rebuild, ive got a quote for £1800 inc VAT, is that about right?

mazda have still got the car as they cracked my front bumper while it was there and they still havent got round to repairing it

any rough estimates of how much a rebuild should cost?

its not from mazda, its form some place in london, one of my mates was trying to find a place to do the rebuild and found him

is it a decent price?

depends whats included, cheaper rebuilds usually don\'t use all new parts, and have no warranty

that price was for a full rebuild with new parts

generally rebuilds are about 2k, with more being charged to remove the engine and refit, does it include that ?

whats the warranty like ?

A better question might be, who and where is this place ?????

Cheers
