Post by: mattywhitt on January 21, 2008, 03:10:31 PM
Hi, What do people think of D2 coilovers? I have read little about them, does anybody have them? They are on the bay £460 delivered. I have tanabe coilovers on now but i cant get the car as low as i want. the tanabes will be for sale.

Shame to get rid of the Tanabe\'s they would be far better than the D2\'s.

I was looking at getting a set of these this month too. I heard that they are made in the same factory as Tein and G-Force, so doubt they\'ll be too bad. Plus you can adjust the hight with out changing the pre load on the spring.

I\'ve got these on my Rex... can\'t fault them so far (8 months)... apparantly a lot of other Jap owners use them? Quite a few of my friends have them on their Pulsar\'s/ Skylines/ Supras and Evos :burnout

Kash - What are they like on the softest and hardest settings?
Also do you know what spring rate you have?

Cheers

tbh I haven\'t adjusted the settings since I put them on as I\'ve got used to how they are. The setting is just over half way and the ride isn\'t too harsh, but a bit firmer then usual... (softer then my Golf\'s Spax coilovers on the same setting)... I will have to find out the spring rates as can\'t remember at the moment

I would keep the tanabe\'s if i could get them to go a bit lower? Would different springs help?

I got them of Martin at Speeline Imports, would different springs lower the car further though?

Tanabe Sustec Pro Coilovers - FD3S  Thats what Martin advertised them as.

By fitting differnt springs it would allow to have more movement up and down the thread on the body damper. Also by doing this you can drop the car without messing with the preload of the spring as much.

D2 are definatly not made in same factory as tein. Tho they are the exact same as k-sport.

hi matt what lenght spring have you got on it if you fit shorter springs it will lower the car,i have just changed the springs on my nitrons for longer ones as i was running out of adjustment so i have them at work if they are shorter,
i think the tanbes would be better (you get what you pay for) give me a ring if you want with the measurements 0121 753 0415

Not if they are sent as a gift. As for a commen made eariler you get what you pay for, however i have no doubt they would be better than stock.

He said he puts the price on the box as 100nz dollars and as a gift, so he asures me that if you get charged it will be minimal.

D2\'s are very popular in the Honda Civic world, although there have been a few reports of leaks developing after as little as 6 months and making people wary.  I have never used them myself, but it might be worth investigating these reports just to be sure.

I bought D2 coilovers from this NZ dude off eBay a while back and fitted them over Christmas. The ride is much improved over the Bilstiens that came with the car. I can\'t really compare them to anything else though, not having had any other make of suspension. They were £400 + £60 p&p + £60 import duty, and arrived within 3 working days.

I\'m guessing this is complete heresay? Or have you had personal experience of both Tanabe and D2 to be able to compare? :p

I think i\'ll take a gamble and try these.

Can always put the Ohlins back on once i\'ve had new seals in them again.

I have had personal experience of the Tanabe\'s and D2, D2\'s not on an FD, The Sustec pro SS, as Matthew has, are one of THE best coilovers you can buy for the FD. They are comparible to Nitron\'s, Zeals, Ohlins or Aragosta\'s so a very high standered in design. Tanabes are over double the price (not that always means anything) of the D2\'s and have a patent desgin.

I have spoken to Tanabe and your best bet Matthew is to remove the helper spring that you have on your damper at the moment. All you doing by removing the helper it is changing the The "Pro Type 1" into the "pro type 2". This will allow you to drop the car to your desired hight.

All the best

I used Performance Friction pads on my old \'96 FireBlade, recommended by Alfs Motorcycles who ran them on their World Endurance Series Kawasakis (not quite the same as a car, I concede!) and they were just about the best brake pads I\'ve used on any bike, ever. Would not hesitate to use them on my FD if they were available.
