Does anybody have any experiance of a torque damper? I did a search and didnt find much. What are the benefits/ drawbacks?

Thanks Matthew

Do you mean the ones that go from the chassis to the UIM on the engine?

If so I have one, needs some adjustment to get right but definately holds the engine better and just feels a bit more taught. However I\'ve also read that new engine mounts will do the same thing so can be seen as a quick fix for that I guess but I quite like it :D

Yeah, I think they\'re worth it, it did help with the gear change but only as much as changing the oil to fully synth Silkoline Pro R stuff in both the \'box and diff. I think combined they\'re help my car a lot!

But then mines a bit funny on 2nd gear when cold so basically the only way to get a 100% fix would be a rebuilt gearbox.

Also I did find it sharpened up the throttle as the engine didn\'t flex IYSWIM, just make thing a bit more predictable especially at lower revs, great for heel & toe :D

Sounds like a worthy buy, where did people get theres from? There is 1 on the bay, and a few from America. Or would it be better to get a branded 1?

I\'ve got a proper FEED one, off a Group Buy here, so don\'t know if the eBay jobs are comparable.

If you have a problem shifting to 2nd or 3rd under wot then a torque damper is a good cheap fix, but it can lead to stress on other drive train parts.

Just been asked about my damper on another thread, bizarrely. Like I said there, it definitely makes the gear shift more accurate, especially when all the oil\'s still cold. Can rattle a bit if you\'re clumsy with the clutch, which I\'m guessing is the torque reaction of the engine trying to twist the entire damper assembly. Like G@NDY said, I suppose it must transfer stress into other areas than just the wing where the bracket mounts, such as the engine mounts. All that twisting energy can\'t just dissapear, and I guess the damper can\'t absorb it all quick enough.
Cheap enough if you get one off the Irish guy who always knocks em out on ebay, and from what I\'ve seen they don\'t appear any worse quality than a FEED one or similar twice the price. I think it was worth it, and they do look good in the engine bay.
