Thought I\'d better step up and introduce myself, since I\'ve finally got it together to join. My name\'s Nick and I\'ve had the priviledge of owning one and a half FDs over the last three years or so.
The first one I murdered horribly last winter in the wet, and the good bits of it live on in the current one. If I can overcome my computer illitiracy, hopefully there should be some pics of it around here. It\'s still a work in progress, but it\'s finally approaching the point where I\'m not totally ashamed to show it in public (the CAR, that is!).
Be gentle with her with your comments, guys, she\'s getting there, poor old thing. And yes, I know there\'s a shopping list down the door. That may well not be lasting too much longer...

Hello and Welcome mate.............enjoy :Thumbs-up
hi, welcome to the club. not been a member for long my self but these are a great bunch of guys and are always trying to help you out.
engine bay looks very tidy.
what make is that engine torque damper and what do you think of it??
welcome mate.
my opinion on the car:
General - nice
engine bay - very tidy.
the only bits i would want to do is remove stickers, lower, get popups or sleek lights, and a new front bumper and spoiler perhaps to update it.
i think the only negative comments you\'ll get would be about the lights thats all as they are a bit marmite you may say :p
hope you enjoy the club and if you would like a red strut brace to go with your look let me know as i have been after one with gold on to go with my them for ages :o
Cheers, guys, thanks for the welcome, and for the comments. The engine and ancilliaries have been my primary target up till now, the cosmetics are the next stage. I\'d rather it all worked before I worry about it being pretty!
The torque damper is of unknown origin from the dreaded Fleabay. There\'s a guy in Ireland who knocks them out on a regular basis for round about £40. It did actually make a difference to the gearchange, especially when you\'re in a hurry, but can be a bit rattly if you\'re ham-footed with the clutch at slow speeds. Worth it, on the whole, I think.
Thanks for offering to take my beautiful Mazdaspeed strut brace off my hands, geezer. I think I can live with the colour clash for a while, especially since I\'ve got the standard red one anyway :) . Nice try, though!
Colour-coordination probably isn\'t my strong suit, anyway, as you can probably tell by the blue Samco.
The hoses came with the engine out of my sadly deaded Montego Blue car, which is why they are the wrong colour. I\'ll try to find some photos of that if anyone\'s interested, they make grisly viewing!
I think I probably agree about the stickers. They started as an attempt to cover a couple of bits where it looks like someone had repainted the car with a catapult (i.e. not very well!), but they somehow seem to have got a bit too M*x P***r. They were cheaper than a respray, though; it\'s on my \'to do\' list!
did you notice any difference in engine movement?? what do you mean by ham-footed lol
yeh get some pics of your old one.

I mean ham-footed as when the biting point gets away from you a bit quick (it\'s an uprated clutch so it\'s not too user friendly), and normally the car would just judder a bit, but now it rattles the torque damper as well! The engine definitely moves less, and the gears are a lot more precise, though I\'ve got a B&M shifter, too, which helps. A bit belt and braces, but the old car had damage to the synchros on third and fifth from the cretinous monkey I bought it from being careless with the gears (I think they\'re a weak point anyway) and I\'m determined not to do it to this one!
Hopefully I\'ve converted these pics ok
Dead straight road, dual carriageway, in no hurry, driving to work in the rain and BAM! Next thing I know, I went into the central reservation, back across the road onto the verge and through a couple of trees. Hurrah.
Weird, and not very pleasant.
I know that sounds like a typical newbie \'I forgot I had another turbo in the wet\' excuse, but I\'d had the car over a year, and it was driven daily, so it probably wasn\'t just me being rubbish. The coppers thought it was a combination of standing water and diesel, but maybe they were humouring me.
You wouldn\'t believe how much damage it did; the panels look bad enough, but the shattered wheel was quite scary. It did every single panel, even the roof. If you look at the front shot, one wheels dead ahead, the other\'s full lock, gives some idea of the state of it underneath!

well if you decide to sell let me know. wasnt asking it for free :2Confused
Welcome to the club buddy. As you are prob aware we are mainly friendly, lol. nice car.
P.s good effort with the montego blue car, at least you did it properly, :rollin
I know, dude, I wasn\'t having a pop! If I ever get rid, you\'ll be the first to know, promise! The (very sleek and sexy) Rex in your avatar looks very black from here. Will gold go with it, anyway?
For God\'s sake, don\'t take me too seriously! I\'m not trying to upset anyone on my first day!
D1 WTF, thanks for the compliment (I think). I guess if you\'re gonna go, go large! It\'s a feature of my driving career that my luck\'s been consistent. When I was a despatch rider for two years I crashed about eight or ten times and had three bikes blow up! Maybe I should just get a pushbike.
I was gutted when the Mon Blue FD bit the big one, though. I didn\'t buy her as much as rescue her from a complete idiot who was basically killing her through neglect. The first night I had her, it rained and I had to empty about four inches depth of water from the spare wheel well. the back window had no inner seal, and three of the four spoiler mounts were replaced with self-tapping screws!
I spent over a year and god knows how much putting her right and then bosh! All wiped out overnight. At least we saved the engine, that was the only reason for buying it in the first place. The guy had a bill for a 5800 quid rebuild from Rotechniks. I know they aren\'t cheap, but from the invoice he must have broken EVERYTHING in the engine bay when he blew it up!
Right, I\'ve got a 4 am shift tomorrow, so I\'d best be off. I\'ll leave you with another couiple of nasty pics. It even squashed flat the hilariously-name HKS Silent Hi-Power pipe, and that was built like the Forth Bridge (and I\'d hate to hear HKS\' idea of a Noisy Hi-Power!). The bit of wood sticking out from the number plate is the end of a post-and rail fence that was wedged in the suspension!

no problem mate :wiggle the engine bay is gold and polished themed if you know what i mean. (bit sad but hey :Tongue1 )
I tend to drive very reserved on the street and very crazy of it because of the fear of what happened to you dont know exactly why as i havent had a big accident to make me change. friends sometimes remark that my driving on the street gets slower as my cars get faster!
Good that it didnt put you off another.
ditto the hks thing, false advertising :rollin :flamed

Ive got one on my FD fella. Couple of minor scrathes but nothing too bad.
If you get really stuck finding one make me an offer :)
Chris
yo dude
you drove past me last week in your red rex!! i live in lancing
Yeah? Is yours the really LOWWW black rex with the supra-style spoiler? I have to go through Lancing to get to the A27 and across to Brighton, I\'m down on the sea front in Worthing. I try to go through as quiet as possible when I\'m on a silly 4 am start, honest! Isn\'t easy driving an RX-7 unobtrusively!
nah, i have a white standard one, there seem to be alot around here

I remember! I was in proper gormless mode that day, driving along thinking "that white car looks pretty cool, I wonder what it is". By the time my brain caught up that it was another Rex, you\'d gone past. Sorry not to give a wave! They do look proper in white, I gotta say.
Who\'d have thought there were so many people with such good taste in the Worthing sort of area. I followed a red FD down Heene road a couple of weeks back, too. I dunno if he\'s on this site at all, but if he reads this; you need to get your exhaust hangers sorted mate, the entire things\' flapping about like a pr*ck in a shirt sleeve!
