Title: slight leak somewhere
Post by: michaelb on January 19, 2008, 09:51:59 PM
Hi All

It looks like I have a slight leak somewhere; I seem to be replacing half a glass to a glass of water every 2 days. Always something..

The buzzer goes off when the car is stationary or cold.  After the car worms up â€" it goes away. No mater how much driving I do the buzzer never stays on after I start driving for a while or the car gets warm.  Where is the leak? Can any one help to direct me to possible leaks?  At the moment when I open the bonnet I don’t see any water leaking….

The car starts cold and warm every time so it is not the dreaded seals.

Last time I took the car to Rotechnics with a leak, they did the pressure test and my radiator went bust with a major water leak.  I had to buy a new radiator. I paid around 600 quid. It has only been on the car under a year.

Regards,
Michaelb

The best way to trace the leak is to run the engine up to temp and have a good look around with a bright torch.
I had a similar issue and could not see a leak, just the wet water marks on the plastic undertray and a small wet patch if I ran the car for 10mins or more in one place.
Pulled the tray off, got underneath and had a really good look around.
Turned out to be the water pump leaking. There is a hole in the casting underneath the pump pulley, where the leak actually was, and the water was running along the wires underneath the pump that confused me for a while as it looked like the leak was elsewhere.

New pumps arn\'t too expensive and not too much of a pain to change.
Hopefully it\'s just a hose leak though

Good Luck

Give me a ring mate on 07771882430 I will talk you through a few places to look. You will need to be looking into the engine bay to make it easy.

Best Regards J.C.

Hi John

Thank again for guiding my thru the complicated water system, I am very impressed…you should be a mechanic.  Certainly one of the pipes we talked about looks well dodgy and has no clip on it..

I am taking the car to Powergains Motor Sport for Kerim to have a look at it.  I am afraid that I do not have the replacement pipes here and I need the car for my daily drive.

Incidentally, I text Kerim this morning with my problem and the guy rung
me (on Sunday !!!! ) to tell me to bring the car tomorrow morning. He did not have to call me back on Sunday, very nice of him to say the least.

John thanks again,  I will let you know the outcome.

Regards,
Michaelb

Thanks for you help.  The torch was an exelent idea, I could see so much more..

I bought a torch, had a look and still I could not see any leaks, I am afraid that I cannot get under the car so I booked the car with Powergains Motor Sport,  RX7 specialists ( Romford ) for 10.45 tomorrow morning

Will let you know the outcome

Right, update:

I went today to Powergains Motor Sport ( RX7 specialists based in London ) the problem was diagnosed within minutes., hose pipe right down the bottom of engine bay was leaking where the clip was set. 2 hrs later hose was changed, AST tank changed (fell apart in Kerims hands due to its age, some clips replaced, oil filter and oil changed and throttle cable tighten.

was it the small pipe that runs horizontally across the engine just under the main hose that connects to the top of the radiator? i believe it runs to the expansion bottle, and it has a cack double sided tit and a coil over it... mine never used to **** water until i\'d stopped the car...wait 2 mins...and i had niagra on the drive. 2 jubilees and removal of the air/filter box so i could get to it. sorted :)

Hi

Thanks for the input but it was a pipe way down the bottom the size of a wrist and about I think an arm in length or shorter….

That sound of the buzzer was so frustrating….

Know the feeling, that buzzer drove me nuts until I found the pump issue.
Good to hear you\'re all sorted now:Thumbs-up
