Title: Idle Adjustment
Post by: leeroy_25 on January 18, 2008, 08:53:55 PM
Hi Guys\'

My engine seems to idle a little fluffy, maybe a little slow and pops a bit too?.. once it\'s hot ticks over perfect but stil a bit slow in my opinion. I am assuming this is to do with a bit of adjustment required. how does the ilde adjuster work? in for higher out for lower? I tried both directions half a turn or so and it didn\'t seem to make any difference. The car was still warming up when I tried it so not sure if that matters? Also I notice there are quite a few adjustment screws on the throttle body? do these balance the front and rear end? Any tips on this.

My motor is just fitted and I can\'t drive it about yet so all of the above may be normal. just though I would check!

Any ideas/info appreciated.
Thank you
Lee

You have the throttle stop screw which is on the front of the TB, so can adjust by this but I don\'t think you\'re supposed to ;)

Then there\'s the wax rod & screw under the TB above the oil filter which adjusts warm and cold idle, as it warms up it should slow the idle and has the most effect easiest on the idle both hot and cold.

Then there\'s the air bypass on the bottom of the TB under the elbow. I think this is for the base idle and is a set amount of air that can bypass the throttle plates!

Hope this gets you in the right direction!

Cheers,
Mark

Thanks Mark. I think I have been tryng to adjust the Air bypass! So I guess this works only really when warm??
Will have to look for the wax rod&Screw..

No worries, I\'ve found the wax rod has the best effect and then just use the throttle stopper on the front just to keep the throttle cable tight.

But it\'s a screw with a spring around it, and when hot you\'ll basically burn yourself on the top of the oil filter adjusting it ;) And mine I could adjust by hand.
