..had any trouble finding the right battery?
I\'ve tried 3 different ones now, the first was the right size for the tray it sits in, but the terminals were set too far into the middle of the battery so the actual connectors wouldn\'t reach to connect up. The second had the terminals in the right position, but it was sooo tiny! it just didn\'t have enough charge to start it up. Then the third, which I had ordered in for me at the local motorparts shop, was the more powerful version of the second, but it still doesn\'t seem powerful enough - also way to small for the tray and I don\'t really want it sloshing around in there! AND the original one that was on the car, has no stickers to tell me what to look for.....AND....I want to drive my car!
Try halfords , iv got one of there batterys and it fits straight in.
When mine died last winter, I just popped to Halfrauds and looked it up in the book, was a bit of a tight fit but went straight on.
Halfrauds sell two types that both fit straight in, one is slightly higher rated than the other.
Ah thanks, I should have gone there in the first place I suppose. DUH.
i have the original battery on my 99 which has a battery code on of-005L hope this helps.
:Thumbs-up Yeah Thanks!
Never seen such a strong concensus for Halfrauds :o
Ha ha ! I hate the fu**ing place, unfortunately all the decent independents near me have shut up shop :-(
Just checked myn its HCB 005 for a heavy duty calcium one.

Same here, but most of the decent shops are only open in the week (while I\'m at work) or for about 1 hour on a saturday that if I oversleep I\'ll miss them!

I don\'t like all their own brand stuff, but I\'ve got a Halfords 005 ordinary battery on the FB from 2001. I\'ll go straight back for another.
Plus as someone says, they\'ve got the applications/battery size list in store!
Thanks all, you\'ve been a great help. Was trying to avoid it but I\'m popping off to Halfords tomorrow!
Halfords, bloody hell they\'ll charge £70 for a battery. Average price for your battery should be £30-40
I paid £49.95 in 2001. Battery\'s still A1 and I\'m very pleased.
But as I said, I don\'t like all their own brand stuff. I guess you have to select what works by trial and error.
As R Lima said, there seems to be a strong round of applause on here for their batteries at least.

I ended up with an Optima Red Top.....expensive but this thing never goes flat!
I got one from Halfords today anyway! Yeah it was about 70 quid, but at least not 95 quid from another place! Went straight on aswell :)

That\'s the other point - it went straight on. Remember the MOT includes battery \'hold down\' security as part of the test.
i went to halfords for a battery 3 weeks ago, £80 bloody hell!!!
had my trade card on me, knocked it to £45 :)

I was missing the brace for my battery when it came over from Japan, I tied it down with a belt as a stop gap, forgot all about it for MOT time and it passed! The guy mentioned it when i collected it, not in a negative way but on my initiative! i was well smug lol :Thumbsup!
im also on the lookout for a new battery. not seeing much love for the red top25 or odyssey pc680. both a bit mor expencive but at about 6kg, sounds like a good mod. http://www.active-batteries.co.uk/enersys-odyssey-pc-680-p-195.html?main_page=product_info&products_id=195

Yeah I\'ve got the metal bar that holds it down, but it\'s not on at the moment as the catch that fastens it down has broke - opened the bonnet one day to find it wobbling around 1cm off one of the belts! I shall sort something before MOT! :)
