Title: 2nd Gen oil cooler, oil change
Post by: mpk490p on January 14, 2008, 04:35:36 PM
hi all, im fitting a gen 2 oil cooler on my gen 1 soon, as far as i know the gen 2 oil coolers have a by pass valve so when i fill it up for the first time i will need to warm it up and top up the oil once upto temp and the oil cooler is full, also when i change the oil i persume it will need to be warm enough to open this valve so i can drain all the oil.
ive never had a car with a oil cooler so excuse the sill question, i normal would warm the car to get the sludge out any way but not to full temp just want to check i have the right idea really

thanks
Mark

Mark,

It does have a bypass valve on side that carries the two oil lines.  If I recal, it has the bypass valve on the bottom.

I would always warm the oil up anyway before an oil change, but I guess when your first fitting / firing up you will have to check the oil level and fire it up again.

On the FC, there is about 4.5-5L of oil in the system, so you would normally pop about 4L in, check the level, run the car for about 1 minute, and then switch off and recheck, this allows the oil to find it\'s way around the system.

thanks Prof, i have 20litres of oil sitting in the garage so i should have plenty!
i think this will really help keep the temps down (not that they got to warm but it all helps)
