couple of days ago \'tuesdays to be exact\' whilst driving car started running lumpy and cut out at same time noticed cloud of smoke from exhaust.
after few attemps of restarting car continued to run lumpy, called for recovery and waited.
after about 30mins thought i would attemp to retsart car and it turned and fired first time with steady idle, tried driving around carpark that i had pulled into no issues seemed to arise, parked up and continued to wait for recovery.
break down truck arrived after another 30mins.
he asked what the issue i had was and asked if i could try starting the car and again started first time and idled fine, decided to attempt returning home with breakdown guy following.
got about ten miles down the road and it happened again. he had no idea what the problem was \'thought it may be igniton\', tried starting the car again and fired first time and drove another ten miles home with no issues.
\'wednesday\' drove car to a few local garages to ask for advice with issue, one had a diagnostics but could not use it till thursday, went back thursday and showed no fault codes.
have not driven car again since then.
current engine mods are cat replacement pipe, and cat back exhaust, apexi ecu, and dump valve.
any help or suggestion please.

possibly map sensor gone faulty?
Sounds like the car is getting warm and loosing compression, so apex seals. Have you got a boost gauge? is the needle flickering? Not sure about the smoke cloud tho.
yeah i have boost gauge, what do you mean by flickering as in sticking/jerky as the gauge seems to be reading fine and needle moving smoothly.
also on wed when going round garages i kept the car running so as to try to get the car as warm as it would go and still no issues with it, in total i would say car was running for around an hour to 2 hours.
are you suggesting a compression test and would it show up any problems from if it is loosing compression when warm.
you could try the poor mand compression test, this should show if a seals away bud, remove the egi fuse and one spark plug, tape up the unpluged lead and crank the car over, u should hear 3 consistant phhist noise`s all even spaced.. think u do this with each plug or just front n rear rotors....
hope this helps.
Does it settle down on idle once warm ?
Could be an iffy pipe running to pressure sensor..........
Not the most fun to find. You will find it in the end !
Shaun
it idles perfectly when cold/warm, the only time it didnt was just before it cut out both times and whn restarting after the first time it cut out, after the second time idled fine after restart which was literally 5-10 secs after cutting out and has done since
thinking it could be electrical fault of some kind, also did not have a chance either time that it cut out to check pfc commander switch/sensor screen.
sounds like a faulty spark to me....i had a similar problem which turned out to be the coil pack
Well if your cars starting both hot and cold id say its not a compression issue! especialy as its idleing fine when hot :) When the car dies how does it go? does it simply cut out as iff you keyed off or does it bog down and die? also is it only at idle?
I would check in order of:
1. MAP Sensor (Faulty sensor or pipe)
2. Compression (3 continous pish type sounds)Take 1 leading plug out at a time to determine which rotor is ok)
2. Ignition related (Plugs, Coils, Leads breaking down)
3. Metering oil pump (will show on diagnostics when fault is present).
Could be a number of things but these would be the most likely causes...kal
