Rear light conversion
I have just purchased my first RX and have decided to upgrade the rear lights, I was not willing to pay the price for the circular spec rears.
Here are some pics of progress with out plastic front.
Cheers

And here is one with the plastic front cover on
OHHHH My poor lights..!!!...only joking........:D
Look great Lee!
Keep us posted.....
Ed
I wanted to do this too.
But the covers are stuck on like bastards!
Did you use a heat gun or something to get the glue off?
More info????
Are you going to paint the Centre cover or just leave it out completely?
No way you actually cut the lens? madddd
I just put circle overlays on each part of the colored lens and then sprayed a few coats of black spray paint.
To get the rubber seals off use a heat gun on low, too high and the outside case will warp and crack :(
Looks good tho ;)
No cutting of the lense, these are circular coach lenses which have a more defined curve which is what I was looking for, I did not want a flat effect on the circle.
I believe this will give a much better effect a little rice maybe but hey check out what I am doing next with them.
Firstly
Heat gun , but what a job :) took ages and I almost broke the front cover several times, a lot of patients and a 1400W gun.
Full pics and instructions will be placed on my site once I have finished the job.
This is only the first step, I am contemplating a couple of paths forward at this stage.
Use carbon inside, around the circular lights, possibly angle the circles to create a deapth effect.
Put Red angel eye around the circles so when I turn on my side lights the angel eyes eluminate.
Once completed I will be offering a upgrade service, give me your light and a little dosh and I will do them for you, let me see how long it takes first.
Cheers

Only had my FD a few days and I am at it already:)
I will wait to see what they are like illuminated before commenting.
Good job on having a go though, I didnt have the balls.
Are you going to have to dismantle them when you want to change a bulb though?
Cheers
Lee
I agree, lit they could look differn\'t :)
I will soon know
Original bulb posistions still used so no problems replacing bulbs.
Like you say worth a try adn I have enjoyed doing it.
Cheers
Lee E
FYI,
In Japan they charge 8000yen for the upgrade and they will paint the inside lens any colour.
LED Conversions are coming too.
Auto Select kit is due out in April.

Hi mae just started working in Oldham and would be interseted in the lights keep me up to date please:D
Keep me posted as well. Thought of doing it to mine but I\'m scared of ballsing it up!
LED ones? cool must look like the rear end of an R1
No worries chaps, I am going to get some new lenses Saturday, need slightly smaller ones if I am to do the angel eye thing, I am even going to be putting a fog light in as well now.
Should have them finished in the next couple of weeks.
Lee E
Hey Monkey boy do you take your rx to Oldham, if so we will have to have a miny cruise:) and I can show you the lights once they are done.
yer drive mon to fri
let me know what happens with the lights and we can meet up
LIGHT UPDATE
After messing around with the current lenses, I felt they were to big adn trying to source a lense about 7cm proved to be difficult so I decided to go the LED route, went to Maplin\'s and found some very nice super bright 52mm clusters.
I cut perspex to size which replaced the original red cover then drilled holes for the clusters.
I am still trying to source a ring of LED\'s to go on the out side of the 52mm brake light cluster, the ring will act as my tail lights.
I also have on order a set of amber 52mm LED cluster for the indicators.
Below a pic of the clusters with the cover on.
Cheers
Lee E
Sorry for the poor quality, more pics to follow once I get them powered up
They look good mate, cant wait to meet up see them in the flesh and twist your arm to do me some
Looking real good!! :D
Thats just what I wanted to do with mine! Go the LED route, but you\'ve beat me to it. I\'ll have to think of something different now to be original....
Mmmm.... lasers..... candles.... ??
looking really good, top job.
LIGHT UPDATE
Managed to get hold of 52mm Amber LED clusters from Kingbright, just waiting for them to deliver and things will start moving again.
By the way here are the prices of the LED clusters.
52mm red, £7 each X 4
52mm amber £7 each X 2
I have decided to place a 26mm super bright red led in the right hand light top left of the light, which will be used for a fog light, I hate the hang down type under the back bumper.
so for a full set of LEDs to do the conversion it cost about £50 and of course the time you will have to put in to do the conversion yourself.
I will put all instructions on my web site
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/daniel.bourne/honda01.swf
Currently I have my old car on the site, it will be updated in the next month or so.
Cheers

Hi Guys/girls
Finally pulled my finger out and did some more on the light upgrade.
Firstly I placed the indicator and fog light in the housing and then hooked up power to the lights.
I then started to mess around with the angel eye effect, I am currently using a flexi neon cord (from Maplins) I have the real deal OEM angel eyes form BMW but the plastic is almost impossible to heat up to altert he size so they fit around my brake.
Any idea\'s welcomed, I will keep hunting for a solution main thing it has to look cool.
ANyway here are some pics.
Brake lights on
Tail lights Angel eye
Side emitting fibreoptic cable!! I\'ve found a supplier in the US who can supply 5ft lengths to the UK for about £20...
Angel eye at night (light turned of in my house)

LOL, must be this weather and my sexual fustration because I was thinking the exact same thing:rolleyes: ;) :rollin
Paul:D
P.S. Looks really good (the lights not the baps)
Due to popular demand the babs are up for sale, no reasonable offer refused:)
Full service history included
cheap insurance
And unlike the rx the fuel econamy is great.
Lee E:)
I\'ll pay for a set of them when you start production (wink wink) :D
Here\'s a pic of the ones you can get in Japan
Make your pricing similar.
RE-Amemiya use them on the D1 car.
They are nice, I like them a lot, thanks for the pointer.
Hoping to finish them off soon so next pics will be on the car:)
Cheers

can\'t wait to see the finished product! looking amazing so far. big props for having the bottle to go for it when ur baby is still so new! :p
Sorry for being bit off-topic and if this is a stupid question, but how do you remove the rear lights?! One of my brake/tail lights has gone and I\'ve had half the boot out trying to get to it!!
Its a \'96 car so already has the round lights. I really couldn\'t see any way of getting to the bulb! Unless I am blind!!
Undo the 2 or 3 screws on the top from the boot, and then push it to the outside of the car and the whole unit comes out.
Is that it!?!! I took half the boot apart, it looked like it wouldn\'t come out with just those screws!!
Cheers anyway, I\'ll give it another go now!!
There\'s a couple of plastic clips behind the lights in addition to the screws on top. When I took mine out, I removed the trim inside the boot and squeezed these clips with a pair of pliers (I was a bit worried they\'d snap off if I just pulled the lights)
anyone know if the autoselect kit is out just yet?
you can check their site,
I couldnt see it but it says april.
http://www.autoselect.co.jp/ (http://www.autoselect.co.jp/)
thanks mate. gonna have some fun navigating that one! really should get a translator program for the PCs at work...
http://www.nagisa-auto.com/
this site has the above posted tail lights.
two styles.
http://www.nagisa-auto.com/headline/led.htm (http://www.nagisa-auto.com/headline/led.htm)
Very nice, very nice...which do you guys prefer? think the style with the concentric ring looks better on the R34, as the lights are bigger...but not sure which is better on FD! both look great though.
Hi Guys finally found a solution to the ring of light problem, I found a company who produces the angel eyes, I need to alter them and fit red LED, here is the result.
Pic is not the best, the next pic will be of the lights on my car:)
Let me know what you guys think.
Cheers

them rear lights look reet proper bo!
Price em right and by looking at the interest shown so far i think by this time next year you could be a millionaire!
AndyR
I like em! well done!
Its looking ok now. A couple of pages back with all that tacky neon wire around it looked awful, but I didnt wanna piss you off saying so then!
Still need to see it on a car though.

Indeed! Although part of the appeal is the exclusivity of the conversion and the unique properties it\'d give the car. I wonder if they\'d be quite so desireable if everyone had them?

:rollin I was thinking the same, but thought as a newbie here it\'s not really my place to say things like that! :rollin
Well I finallygot them onto the car last night and here are the pictures
Its going dark now so I will take some more to show the lit up angel eye
what a tease , now turn them on :-)
FInally
Got out to take apic
Indicator/brake one to follow
:)
Image problems
I am off out again, I will try to take some better pictures this time, Shakey hands.
take a couple of steps back when you take the next pics, it\'ll look better with the rest of the car in frame.:) oh it lokks good BTW!
Battery ran out last night so more pics to follow tonight, I iwll also leave the car out of the garage to get some better pics.
They look the biz m8, let us know a price coz a set of them on my new car would be just the ticket :D :D
I took a couple more I will post
More to follow when I can get a better camera
:)
Let me know what you think, I have teething problems but nothing major to sort out.
:)
Nice work Eddie, im really impressed by them, could have yourself a little moneyspinner here :D
Agree with general consensus first attempt wasn\'t too hot, but these ones are awesome;)
Got any more projects planned...?
I agree the first try was lacking a lot, took ages to find a company who do something that would look good and do the job, I got what I think look great lights, honest they even look better in the flesh:)
Thanks for all your support and advise whilst doing the lights.
Next on the books are the front lights, thinking of angel eye fronts with hella circular projector lights, should be easy I think.
I now need to get hold of some back lights to start doing more conversions.
What do people think of this,
If anyone buys a set of lights from me I would need your old lights back as an exchange, seems the best way and that will keep cost down to minimum.
Anyway I will be making another set for sale in the next two weeks.
ANyone any ideas on price.
Lee E
I\'ve been thinking about the projector lights for a while - how does the aligning work tho? would you need to have the lights adjustable to sort out the aiming of the headlight?
OJ
I\'ll deffo have a set of them rears off you when the car lands. I was going to fit later spec ones but they look miles better.
Exchange is fine by me and seems the best route because people would find it hard to send out their lights to be done. Doing it that way you would be without lights for a week or 2, and a car :(
As soon as I get the car I will be e-mailing you.
Front projectors sound good too. I was going to get the knight sports light kit (twin round) think they look miles better
Cheers and great work :D
Any updates on this?
Any chance you can post a list up of parts needed and maybe a write-up on how to do it? I really want my lights sorting and this conversion seems just the ticket :D
If poss can you tell me where to get the stuff from, what exactly I\'ll need and prices etc
Cheers m8
Sorry for the lack of posts on the rear lights, work has meant I have been too busy but I have had mine on for a while now, had a few teething problems which are now sorted.
I will be attending the next northern meet so people can have a look at them, I am very pleased with the results they look the part nice and modern.
Due to the time involved in getting these lights ready I will only be making a couple of sets.
Anyone interested should mail me on Leee_home@hotmail.com
Cheers
