Title: Lining up engine to remount
Post by: Sean on February 24, 2004, 06:00:33 PM
I\'m trying to refit my engine, I currently have it hanging by some rope in the middle of a car park.

It\'s lowered into the engine bay, but I can\'t seem to be able to line the clutch up in the bell housing. Is there a trick to doing this , or am I missing something simple?

After all the most I\'ve ever done to a car before, is change the stereo!!!!

Can anyone please help?:god I\'ll beg!

Ehhh maybe a stupid wuestion, but did you line up the clutch on the flywheel? otherwise you wont get the clutch lined up with the gearbox bellhousing...

do you mean puttin the stick thing in the hole, or lining the splines by turning the flywheel?

Hi, sorry to hear your having problems.
I have found that getting engine and gearbox to line up is a 2-3 person job. You need to make all the axes line up with each other. Jacking the gear box up a bit may help, but usually you need to rotate the engine... in two planes.    With one person working the winch. the other one/twp people move the front of the engine in a side to side and or up and down motion. On the other hand, if you have the crane for a few days, why not remove the gearbox and attach it to the engine outside of the car. maybe a lot easier than trying to get all those nuts and bolts in whilst lying on your back in the snow..... Good Luck

Hi Cycaduk,

How are you fixed? I\'m only in Winsford.

Fancy getting your hands dirty?
