Title: Engine Dress Up - What size pipes??
Post by: chrisJDM on January 04, 2008, 11:10:29 PM
Im looking at dressing up my engine to make it look a bit nicer, im looking at getting all the tubes and pipes in blue and was wondering if anyone can help me with sizes

ive highlighted a few in the pic that i want to change, as you see some of the intercooler pipes are already done, i need to get a few more, im going to get rid of the black plastic pipe on the left for a nice shinny one and i already have a greddy elbow ready to go on the right.

not sure on the sizes sorry but i would leave the one on master cylender as that has a one way valve in there, that controls the brakes so may be better to heat wrap it.

cant you just take them off and take them to a place near you which supplies silicone hosing? and just get some the same size?

Also, are you going to replace the black pipe which comes from the second turbo to the I/C pipework?

Engine bay is looking nice though :)

can the coolant ones coming off the ast and filler neck be replaced with \'normal\' silicone hose of the right bore, or does it have to be special pressure rating or something?

im not sure, trouble is i live down in somerset in the middle of nowhere so i dont think there are any of the silicone hose companies down here, i just wondered if anyone else on here has done the same before and already knew the sizes i need.  I have sent a e-mail to one of the silicone hose companies and will see what response i get.

You can buy an overwrap for pipes if you did want to do the brake resovoir one. Gary sells it

The bays looking sweet there! im glad im not the only one being pedantic about these things. As for silicone hoses yeah you can buy hoses that are designed for coolant as you can do with vac lines :Thumbs-up  however i do not know if generic pipes do the job.

if you find the sizes i would love to know them as its somthing i would look into doing myself :wave

these chaps do a full kit containing everything you need, including hose cutters and splitter, and full instructions, car specific for the FD. Not cheap though. Managed to get an unused one second hand ;-)
their website shop is being updated at the moment, and they ship to the uk.
