Title: Fitting my B&M short shifter questions
Post by: GaseJo on January 04, 2008, 01:19:07 PM
Hi all,

I have just fitted my B&M short shifter. Very straight forward!!

When i took my old shifter off the oil level was right up to the point where it was trickling out the side is this normal? or is the gearbox over full? Also the oil was crystal clear goldey colour so obviously it has been serviced as i would not expect 14 year old oil to be that good. So just wondering if who ever done the service topped it up to much.

Cheers Garith.

That oil remark does not sound right.

There is a fill hole, a level hole and a drain hole on the gearbox, laid out a bit like this, if i was you I\'d jack it up, undo the level plug and drain out the excess.

fill................<>

level..............................<>

drain...........<>

Thanks Red and single,

I will put that on my todo list. I presume the car will have to be lifted levelish to get the correct level.

Hi Paul,

Yeah seems to be a bit notchy but i have only moved it around with the engine off, I presume when the engine is up to temp it smooths out abit. Also does not seem to be much less movement than my old one but again without going through the gears when driving it is hard to tell.

Cheers Garith.

the car is gonna need to be something like level to get it right yeah, and i think the b&m shifter is only a 30% reduction in throw, but i have driven cars with more and it has seemed a bit much.
