Hi,
I\'d be interested which exhaust you decide to go for and costs etc,i am thinking about putting a stainless steel system on in future.
I also have a 1979 mk1.
Cheers Stuart....:wave

I would buy racing beat high performance exhaust. Cost 680USD and just bolt on. The only problem is transportation, duty etc. costs.

I think the genuine RB one is certainly one the safest bets, I\'ve had a lot of bits from them and they really are spot on. I have a kit form manifold from them and it\'s made of nice thick steel and should last and sound nice (thin steel sounds tinny and wrong)

It\'s not that bad with the dollar being so weak at the moment as well.

WGT do a full stainless one for just over 400 quid. Bolts straight up and is a nice sound.

Hardest part is getting the thermal reactor off. Not the nicest job to get to the rusted nuts.

I asked WGT by email today. Will see what they offer. Someone tested WGT 1 gen. exhaust ??
By the way I also need 81-85\' el. ignition distributor to replace my old point system. Someone know how much is the new one ? ( i bet it costs fortune) I would buy also used one tested.

jacekr35..
Ive found a supplier in Australia who has many rare parts in stock for mk1\'s,all brand new & boxed!!He has rear lights, door & boot rubbers, items of trim, carpet, starter motors etc.
I will order from him to see if he\'s reliable, then pass on his details.
he also has new items for mk2/mk3 rx7\'s.
A brand new starter motor is £85 plus shipping etc & any duties payable.
He hasn\'t got any new distributors though unfortunately.
Let me know about the WGT exhaust
Cheers Stuart:Thumbs-up

I\'ll ask him,he\'s on holiday for a few days,he dosent list any elec distributors, but he may be able to get some...
cheers stuart..:Thumbs-up
If you need any other parts, mechanical, trim, lights etc,let me know as shipping costs from OZ add up & for just one item you would probably find it cheaper to source closer to home.:Thumbs-up

Ask pip at WGT about that too, he may be able to source a good condition 2nd hand one. Doesn\'t have as many 1st gen bits nowadays though.

The top left hand one is nigh-on impossible. I seem to recall that whacking that nut with a long tough screwdriver used as a chisel (horizontally onto the top right of it) is sometimes the best way. I\'ve even had to take the manifolds off  to get at it - Draining down/new antifreeze - don\'t forget new gaskets and \'o\' rings - uggggh!

I ended up taking the whole intake manifolds off to get a ring spanner on the nuts. Not easy.

Arghh! From what you guys are saying its a bitch to replace the exhaust system.Maybe its best to leave it to the pro\'s!?
Jon i\'ll give you a call, its worth having a look.

More the case that you can\'t get a socket on it at all. Alot of the guys on rx7club say a wobble bar will cure (pg243 item 5 in machine mart cat). But I struggled. Just ended up taking the whole upper assembly off with the carb and the got a ring spanner to it.

it isn\'t so bad ... but then again I\'ve had to re-evaluate my understanding of impossible to work on cars after rallying Lada Riva\'s for the past 5 or 6 years ... now the manifold bolts on those are b@stards.

Great news is once you chuck all the standard cast iron rubbish it\'s dead easy to get to all the nuts :-)

Don\'t forget you need to blank all the polution gubbins on the manifold as well so budget some time for making blanking plates or purchase some.

Nooo... it\'s just one nut really, once the heat shields are out of the way. It is simplest to allow for taking the inlet manifold and carb off - everything is reasonable then. So the degree of difficulty is more the extent of what you have to do for one nut.

Is the emmisions control setup on the 1st gen similar to the 2nd gen EGi?  I\'m looking at doing the same on Moonwrap\'s 1st gen.  :wave

No, I think you mean is the ECU variable? (do you young \'uns call it remapping)? The FB has a simple  ECU of sorts in the passenger footwell for basic control of the emissions solenoids, but it should never need touching. The electronic distributor is just a series 2 and 3 replacement for the old points system on the series 1. There may be a bit of resetting of advance etc and it\'s worth checking the Haynes for details of which plugs etc, but apart from that it should just be a swopover. I\'ll swot up on Haynes a bit and report.

Nah - not worried about the electronic gubbins - just wanted to know if the plumbing was the same :Giggle

Ah - air pump etc? Don\'t know what the FC is like but the FB has an air pump that feeds air into the thermal reactor. You remove the pump and reactor to fit a stainless system, blanking off here and there as you go; becoming a lot simpler plumbing, then finally you have to reset the idle and mixture slightly because by now its now over-rich. Is that what you envisaged?

Plumbing wish its quite similar. They both use the thermal reactor and have an air pump.
