Post by: ratty_ratty on January 02, 2008, 07:58:42 PM
ok have a major problem now.

i dissconnected the battery

left the car for a bit

took the plugs off the standard ece

plugged in the power fc

and then plugged int the commander

then i conected the battery up

turned the ignition on and initialize

then switched the ignition off and on

then start it up and it didnt like it

it is miss fireing big time and cant rev it it makes it worse

the screen comes up 13b so i guess its the right ecu and comander

so i dissconnected the battery and fitted the original ecu again

then connected the battery up

and fired it up and still no good

it runs sounds like misfiring

smoking bad white smoke smell very fuely and i can hear this clicking away int he engine bay

have i blown the car up??

Well there is a startup procedre for the pfc so it can learn your idle and electrical load.
I wll have a look and see if i can find the link

When you first connect and turn on the car the commander goes into learning mode. I think this runs for about 30 mins turning different things on at certain intervals. After the learning mode is complete the car should idle smooth. I hope this helps. I am sure other people on here will know what bits to turn on at what intervals. As for the clicking and white smoke i am not sure hopefully some one else can help with that.

Cheers Garith.

is the pfc new i had all sorts of troubles on mine
just turn the ignition on and reset the comander then let it idle will sound awfull for ten mins then switch on some power feed like ac or heated rear window then let it run another ten it should sort itself out.
if the idle continues to be lump at the back of the plenum theres a screw inside a spring this is the idle screw. screw it all the way in then open it about half or a ful turn reset the comander again and repeat first two ten mins sessions , dont rev the car let it sort itself out will happen in the end now mines sweet hope that helps

after initialising the unit start the car and with the ac off let it idle for 10 minutes.

Then switch on the rear demister and let it idle for another 10 minutes.

Then switch this off and switch the aircon on and let it idle for another 10 minutes and then its job done and you can drive the car. Best to get it mapped pretty sharpish though.

If the ecu is right and is working correctly it wont cause the misfiring symptons your describing though.

mine smoked like a cigar when i first did it the apexi is learning all the paramiters from scratch so let it do its thing yes clicking might be a sensor or a relay the ecu is trying to test or control but see what happens

The PowerFC manual states to start the car, ensure no errors are present and let the car idle for at least 30 minutes. During this idle period wait about 10 minutes, turn on the air con, wait another 10, turn on the demister, wait another 10 minutes or so and then your car is ready to drive. If you short cut the self learn idle procedure once the car is turned off and back on again it will simply stall each time. If this occurs you must factory reset it again and do the procedure from the st.art

Disconnect Power
Unplug stock ECU
Plug in PowerFC ECU
Reconnect Power
Start Car, let it idle for approx 10 minutes before doing anything
Turn on aircon, let it readjust its idle and wait about 10 minutes
Turn on demister, let it readjust its idle and wait about 10 minutes

Hope it helps

Just a thought but what would you do if you have removed the air conditioning, I am currently in the middle of a street ported rebuild and have removed the air con and the air pump. One of my many mods during this build is installing a pfc, as well as a load more upgrades? Ade.

Thats shouldn\'t matter, all the pfc is doing is learning current loads so it can adjust the idle accordingly, but as you wont have this load it wont matter anyway....

Id tend to agree, as the pfc is only learning any electical loads that are put on the car, you should just be able to ignore this step, but id still let the whole 30mins laps so it can go though its cycle.
