Title: Exhaust Popping
Post by: Timmy on December 29, 2007, 02:57:12 PM
My exhaust on my fd pops alot according to my dad. What is normal? I have a kakimoto exhaust the one with only one back box and it is extremely loud. It pops when i change gear under heavy load and light load and sometimes when you blip the throttle. Actualy sounds good tho.
Tbh i thought this was quite normal on a rx with a exhaust system as they are known for spitting flames and all sorts.

unburnt fuel prob causing it..more down to overfuelling and mapping rather than by design

Well, there are some on here that say it shouldnt do it.

But in my opinion, its normal with a modified exhaust, Mazda conservatively programmed the computer to inject a little TOO much fuel, so it doesnt all get burnt. Under certain circumstances, this extra fuel can ignite in the exhaust.

Enjoy the sound!  :-)

Hey man I suspect I have a Kakimoto backbox and mine pops on shifts and whenever the car is hot and I\'m taking it easy.

On another matter do you have any photo\'s of your exhaust? I\'m not 100% sure if mine is Kakimoto or not as a name plate has fallen off.

mine pops and bangs like a proper trooper at 2k revs..ish..if i just blip the throttle up to around 2k ish..it pops, its good for scaring old grannies :D haha.

never did it all until i had the back-box fitted though, it had a de-cat downpipe but still had the standard back-box when i bought it. I fitted an aftermarket jobbie and its popped n banged ever since, even after having the PFC mapped.

Do you still have the mid cat still installed ?? You need the air pump running if you do to stop it getting clogged up.

Mine pops for fun, just part of the fun of a rotary. Usually good at night on the motorway when pulling hard. You can get some serious flames without trying too hard :D

i have no idea, i still haven\'t been under the car. I was about to the other day to adjust my coilovers and relised that if i touched them i wouldn\'t be able to get my jack back out. So i\'m not looking foward to using the sissor jack.
