Hi everyone,
Looking for some advice if you can spare the time please, i need a new clutch and being a relative newcomer i don\'t know whether to stick with the stock clutch or whether i would benefit from an after market number.
I want something that is suitable for everyday use but can take a thrashing on the track too! Is a stock clutch ok for this or should i go aftermarket??? And if i should go aftermarket what would you recommend.
Your advice would be much appreciated.
Cheers
Donato

I am just about to have an Exedy clutch and flywheel fitted.
Single plate, rated up to about 350-400BHP. So once its fitted I will let you know what its like.

Danny,
That\'s what I was thinking of getting - when I start this summer\'s modding spree. Don\'t want the hassle of twin as I live in london but will need something stronger than stock for anything > 300 HP.
Will be interesting to see how it feels when it\'s bedded in.

Once it\'s bedded in, I will let you have a go and see for yourself.

Cool, cheers.

My (standard AFAIK) clutch makes a funny noise when engaged similiar to what you describe - I noticed it the other day when I was warming the engine up and had the car out of gear.
I started the car and took my foot of the clutch (force of habit - always put foot on clutch when starting after not doing so in a car that was left in gear a few years ago!!) It was then I noticed that the noise came and went as I lifted and pressed the clutch.
Anyone else noticed this on a standard clutch or is it likely that I might have an aftermarket one fitted?!?!
I\'m pretty sure the clutch is sound as I don\'t have any slip or anything.
I never noticed any noise on my stock organic clutch
Metal against metal makes a horrible noise though luckily only for about half a second as you lift your foot up

I get a noise coming of mine when the clutch is depressed out of gear. It was there even before my clutch started to slip....
Is there a benifit to changing to a single clutch plate? Or should i just stick to the twin?
I\'m sitting around 280 bhp with no plans to inncrease in the near future.

My engine has just been rebuilt by Pip (WGT), he noticed that my clutch had nothing left on it (I can only assume this was standard) and that it would obviously be better to do something about it now while it was already out.
I couldn\'t afford a new one, nor did he have one in, so he gave me a nearly new one. I don\'t know who made it nor how many plates it has, but it\'s got centrafugal (excuse spelling) wieghts on it. He say\'s that it\'s the same type that he uses in his race car!! But anyway, he put that on it for me for £50, and it\'s f**king brill.
It\'s a bit jerky on take off (can\'t do it gently) but it\'s great fun!!:D
